Description
In this 320-hour course (200 hours of classroom/lab and 120 hours of externship) the students will learn how to maintain sterile operative fields, maintain inventory or medical inventory or medical supplies/equipment. They assist healthcare practitioners during surgery, position patients for treatment or examination. Surgical technicians are responsible for preparing and organizing surgical rooms and cleaning equipment. Operates equipment safely and accurately and complies with all Federal and State regulations. Students will be trained to apply knowledge of age base competencies in interacting with patients. Demonstrates proper care, set up, use, and cleaning, handling of instruments trays. Surgical technicians work in hospitals and outpatient surgery centers. Upon completion of the Surgical Technician course, students will be prepared and eligible to sit for the TS-C (National Center for Competency Testing, NCCT) certification exam, which is recognized by the Arkansas State Medical Board.
