Description
The Surgical Technology program is committed to the skills, behavior, and knowledge of individuals to provide them with the necessary skills to fulfill their roles as entry-level Certified Surgical Technologists. This included attributes of motivation, self-confidence, ethical behavior, professionalism, and well-trained professionals.
As a result, graduates from this program will be well equipped for a career with excellent job prospects and the necessary credentials should they wish to continue their studies. Information about the requirements for completion and other program details are as follows:
PROGRAM COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS
To successfully complete the Surgical Technology program, the following criteria must be met:
- Completion of all pre-professional and professional courses with a “C” or better
- Complete the minimum 120 first or second scrub procedures in the clinical setting of which 30 must be general surgery
- Score 98/150 on the Certified Surgical Technologist Practice Exam Form A or B
- Sit for the Certified Surgical Technologist Examination

Academic Standards
Surgical technology students must maintain a 2.0 (C average) cumulative grade point average. Students receiving a grade less than “C” in any course in the Surgical Technology curriculum, which does not carry the SURG prefix, will be required to repeat the course (or an acceptable alternative). If a student receives a grade lower than a “C” in the repeated course, he/she will be ineligible to apply for admission to the program.
Students receiving a grade of less than a “C” (75%) in any course with the SURG prefix will be dismissed from the Program.
Additionally, the following courses must be completed with a C or better before admittance to the program will be allowed:
Semester One:
- BIOL 24001/BIOL 24003 Human Anatomy and Physiology I with Lab
- ENGL 10103 English Composition I
- Complete one of the following: HIST 21103 US History to 1877 OR HIST 21203 US History Since 1877 OR PLSC 20003 American National Government
- MATH 11003 College Algebra
- SOCI 10103 Introduction to Sociology
Semester Two:
- BIOL 24101/BIOL 24103 Human Anatomy and Physiology II with Lab
- BIOL 20001/BIOL 20003 Microbiology with Lab
- ENGL 10203 English Composition II
- PSYC 11003 Psychology and the Human Experience
