Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The HVAC HELPER will be responsible for assisting skilled sheet metal workers and foreman in the fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of sheet metal & HVAC components on residential, commercial, and industrial HVAC systems. This position supports daily jobsite operations by handling materials, preparing work areas, and performing basic tasks under supervision while following safety procedures and quality standards.

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. ASSIST HVAC technicians and Foreman with the installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems and components.
  2. MEASURE, cut, assemble, and install ductwork, piping, insulation, and HVAC materials using hand and power tools under the supervision of experienced technicians.
  3. LOAD, unload, transport, and organize HVAC equipment, materials, tools, and supplies at the jobsite.
  4. SET UP and dismantle work areas, ladders, scaffolding, and other equipment while maintaining safe working conditions.
  5. ASSIST with equipment installation, ductwork assembly, refrigerant line installation, condensate piping, equipment startup preparation, and other basic HVAC tasks as directed.
  6. MAINTAIN a clean, organized, and safe work environment by removing debris, cleaning work areas, and properly storing tools and materials.
  7. READ AND FOLLOW job specifications, blueprints, equipment installation instructions, and verbal directions from supervisors and lead technicians.
  8. COMPLY with all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and applicable mechanical codes while using proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
  9. INSPECT, CLEAN, AND MAINTAIN tools, equipment, and company vehicles to ensure they remain in safe operating condition, reporting any deficiencies to a supervisor.
  10. PERFORM other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of basic HVAC equipment and sheet metal materials
  • Knowledge of jobsite safety practices and fall protection requirements
  • Knowledge of common hand and power tools used in HVAC and sheet metal work
  • Knowledge of basic math for measuring, cutting, and material layout
  • Skills to safely use hand and power tools
  • Skills in measuring, cutting, and handling sheet metal materials
  • Skills in following instructions and working effectively as part of a team
  • Skills in time management and task prioritization
  • Skills in effective communication on the jobsite
  • Abilities to work at heights and in varying weather conditions
  • Abilities to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Abilities to stand, kneel, bend, and perform physical labor for extended periods
  • Abilities to learn new skills and follow safety procedures
  • Abilities to work independently with supervision

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent
Six (6) months experience working in construction, HVAC, sheet metal, or a related trade environment

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bilingual 
Specialized training: crane CCL, forklift, manufacturer-authorized trainers, man lift, rigging, roof system specific training, cool roofs, CERTA

 

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Must pass a criminal background check
Must have a valid driver’s license
Must have and maintain a good driving record
Must pass preemployment drug screening  
Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds

WORK CONDITIONS: 
Works outside in all types of weather and may be exposed to extreme heat and cold, rain, snow, sun etc. 

This is a safety sensitive position due to driving requirements or job responsibilities whole include safety-sensitive tasks that require performing duties fraught with risk of injury to others where even a momentary lapse of attention may have grave and disastrous consequences.
