Job Description
Job Summary:
The Food Service Specialist is responsible for food preparation, service, storage and maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of food services areas. This position supports daily dining operations and catered functions while ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.
Salary: Annual salary of $26,000. Plus, comprehensive benefits package.
Work Schedule
This position will require day, evening, and/or weekend shifts consisting of eight (8) hours based on operational needs. Employees will work a rotating schedule to ensure coverage on weekends and holidays.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Participates in food preparation activities by cleaning, cutting, or peeling vegetables and/or fruits, making sandwiches, opening canned foods, brewing coffee and tea, and pouring beverages.
Replenishes table items and condiments, arranges and restocks salad, dessert, and/or buffet items
Prepares serving lines with hot and cold food items and assists with food presentation.
Serves food from serving lines, prepares and transports food trays, and provides food service support for meetings, special events, and catered functions.
Packs food, dishes, utensils, tablecloths, and accessories for transportation from catering or food preparation establishments to and from on-site locations, as designated.
Ensures cleanliness and functional facility operation by cleaning kitchen, storage and dining areas, by sweeping, vacuuming and mopping floors, washing appliances, tables, chairs and windows, operating dishwasher and disposing of trash and garbage.
Assists with food and supply ordering and inventory management.
Complies with all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned
Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of food preparation, service, storage, and handling procedures.
Knowledge of sanitation, food safety, and health regulations applicable to food service operations.
Ability to prepare and serve food in a safe and efficient manner.
Ability to clean and maintain food service equipment, utensils, and work areas.
Ability to safely operate knives, choppers, peelers, slicers, and other food preparation equipment.
Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and provide excellent customer service.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Required Education and Experience:
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma.
Six (6) months of food service or related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
One (1) year or more of food service, catering, hospitality, restaurant, cafeteria, or institutional dining experience.
Experience operating commercial kitchen equipment and following food safety and sanitation standards.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including up to three (3) consecutive hours.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
Ability to push or pull carts weighing up to 40 pounds.
Ability to perform repetitive motions associated with food preparation, serving, and cleaning activities.
