Position Summary:

Arkansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a faculty position in Large Animal Veterinary Ambulatory Medicine and Surgery (Equine and Livestock). This will be a 12-month, full time, non-tenure track, Assistant or Associate Professor position. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This will be a predominantly clinical position (60-80% clinical service and clinical teaching), pre-clinical (years 1-3) teaching (10-30%), and service (10%). Promoting and providing large animal ambulatory veterinary services to the Jonesboro and surrounding local communities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Promote the A-State Large Animal Ambulatory Service
  • Provide day-time veterinary ambulatory care to large animal species including horses, donkeys, cattle, sheep, goats, and swine to the Jonesboro community, surrounding  communities, and any other stakeholders (8-a.m. to 5-p.m.)  (estimated 50% livestock and 50% equine patients)
  • Provide emergency veterinary ambulatory care to established A-State Large Animal Ambulatory Veterinary service clients and A-State animals
  • Lead and manage herd-health protocols for established ambulatory clients
  • Work collaboratively with other A-State and local veterinarians and staff
  • Manage ambulatory technician personnel
  • Teach clinical year DVM students in large animal ambulatory veterinary medicine
  • Contribute to classroom and clinicals skills related education for DVM students (years 1-3)
  • Contribute to college and university committees and/or serve on regional or national professional organizations
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other faculty and staff
    • Ability to communicate effectively across CVM stakeholders
    • Ability to prioritize tasks, deliver results in a timely manner, and function independently

General Days/Hours:

Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
On-call afterhours care as needed to established clients and A-State animals
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance

Minimum Qualifications:

  • DVM or equivalent
    • 5 years of clinical experience
    • Board certification in a large animal specialty (e.g., ACVS-LA, ACVIM-LA) (preferred)
