Job Description

Rocket Software, Inc. is looking to fill a Director, Software Engineering position reporting to Rogers, Arkansas (May telecommute part of time from home residence within Rogers, AR metropolitan area). Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent accepted) in computer science, software engineering, or a related field and 12 years’ progressively responsible experience in an IT-related occupation. Experience must include the following specific experience and skills:

• 12 years’ experience in software development, with a strong track record of delivering complex, high-impact applications
• 8 years’ leadership experience managing geographically distributed engineering teams, with demonstrated success in coordinating delivery across time zones, cultures, and organizational boundaries. This includes 3 years’ experience as a manager of managers, driving performance, scalability, and organizational growth
• 5 years’ hands-on experience working with MultiValue application servers, including platforms such as UniVerse, UniData, jBASE, D3, or other related MultiValue technologies. Deep understanding of the MultiValue data model, query and BASIC languages
• Proven ability to champion and implement engineering quality standards, including best practices in automated testing, CI/CD, and software quality assurance

The Director of Software Engineering is a strategic leadership role responsible for guiding the end-to-end software development process across multiple product teams. This position plays a critical part in shaping the organization’s technical landscape—setting direction for architecture, development standards, and long-term technology planning.

In partnership with senior leadership and cross-functional teams, the Director defines and drives execution of engineering strategies that align with business goals. The role requires strong organizational coordination, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, with high quality, and with the right allocation of resources.

A key focus of this role is building and leading high-performing global teams. The Director is expected to attract, develop, and retain top talent, foster a collaborative culture, and champion continuous improvement in both people and processes.

Collaborate with senior leadership to define and implement organization’s technological vision and long-term strategy. Interact with product managers, sales, and support to ensure teams have the proper priorities, and customer commitments are being met in all aspects of the development work. Interface with clients/partners to manage the business partner relationship, provide updates as needed, and address any critical customer situation including status and being a single point of contact until full resolution is met. Work across multiple teams and disciplines, sometimes with other lines of business, to align schedules, resources, and priorities and help ensure delivery commitments are met and with the highest quality. Help team members prioritize work and load balance, sometimes across multiple teams to ensure everyone is working towards the same priorities and OKRs. Select, develop, and evaluate personnel as needed to ensure their qualifications and is also instrumental in attracting, growing, and retaining top talent, as well as making decisions to part ways with underperforming individuals when necessary. Drive the adoption of best engineering practices, coding standards, and quality assurance processes across the engineering teams. Evaluate and implement software development methodologies and tools to streamline workflows and enhance productivity. Monitor industry trends and advancements to proactively identify opportunities for business growth and improvement. Champion the exploration and integration of cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions to enhance product offerings.
