Job Description

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), the industrial hygiene/specialist is responsible for coordinating the university environmental compliance and industrial hygiene programs. Consistent with university mission and the university safety operating procedure, this individual contributes to the operation of the EHS department in helping maintain a safe and compliant campus. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate environmental compliance programs, including stormwater, hazardous waste, and spill prevention controls and countermeasures (SPCC)
  • Coordinate industrial hygiene program, including indoor air quality, exposure monitoring and ventilation
  • Perform periodic inspections and provide service to ensure compliance with environmental compliance and industrial hygiene programs
  • Communicate with faculty, staff, students, and administration regarding their role in environmental compliance and industrial hygiene
  • Maintain measurement equipment and keep it in current calibration
  • Develop plans to assist campus entities in compliance with environmental compliance and industrial hygiene programs
  • Provide data and information to the Environmental Health and Safety Director for the purpose of updating environmental compliance and industrial hygiene programs
  • Work with the Safety and Emergency Management office when necessary in accordance with the university safety operating procedure
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of the methods, practices, and safety precautions in one or more of the skilled trades, the accepted practices, processes, materials, and tools of the various skilled trades, and the laws and regulations relating to one or more of the skilled trades

Ability to provide mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates for one or more of the skilled trades, read and interpret blueprints, manuals, schematics, building plans, and/or work drawings, understand verbal and written instructions, and maintain inventory on needed parts and tools for one or more of the skilled trades

General Days/Hours:

Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a High School Diploma

Preferred to have a valid Driver's License

Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the Qualifications Review Committee.
