RIVERVIEW SCHOOL DISTRICT Mechanic
Job Title: Mechanic
Department: Transportation
Reports to: Director of Transportation
Classification: Non-Exempt
Summary
The Mechanic is responsible for assisting the director of transportation in the maintenance of a safe, efficient transportation system for the Riverview School District.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Install safety equipment used by the school district’s transportation system.
- Perform repairs on school buses as needed and preventative maintenance according to a predetermined schedule.
- Keep accurate, current records on the maintenance schedule for all district vehicles used by the pupil transportation system.
- Assist in preparation of the fleet for the annual state highway patrol inspection.
- Keep the tools and machinery of the transportation system in a safe, organized manner.
- Make recommendations to the director of transportation regarding purchase of spare parts and necessary repair of vehicles.
- Keep current in the knowledge of maintenance of new equipment.
- Periodically inspect all vehicles to insure they are in proper working order.
- Establish and maintain a systematic program to keep transportation vehicles clean.
- Comply with all Riverview School Board of Education policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the director of transportation.

Qualifications
Education/Experience
Experience in maintenance and repair of diesel engines and have been a journeyman mechanic
Valid Arkansas Bus Driver’s License
Extensive knowledge of operation, maintenance, and repair of all classes of pupil transportation vehicles used by the Riverview School District
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Arkansas Class B CDL with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement
Physical as required by Board Policy
Skills and Abilities
Language
Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos written in English; write simple correspondence; communicate one on one and in small groups; and maintain appropriate relationships with coworkers.
Computation
Have the ability to compute mathematic problems as needed in the transportation department.
Reasoning
Comprehend and follow detailed but basic written or oral instructions; solve simple problems with few variables in stable conditions.
