POSITION DESCRIPTION: FEDERAL CASE MANAGER
I. INTRODUCTION
Functions under the direct supervision of the Facility Director. However, has considerable latitude in making independent professional decisions and recommendations for action that can have a serious impact on residents’ lives. Provides direction to line staff in the application of Case Management theory, methods, and principles. Interprets to line staff the program plans and objectives for individual residents. Provides the professional Case Management expertise as a member of the resident’s Correctional Program Unit, working closely with professional and contract staff members. Has full professional responsibility for difficult cases that present a wide range of psychosocial and environmental problems. The duties of this position require direct constant contact with individuals in confinement who are suspected or convicted of offenses against the criminal laws of the U.S. Government.
II. RESPONSIBILITIES AND MAJOR DUTIES
Responsible for reporting aspects of position; Discipline Procedures, Resident Health and acts as a Family Liaison. Functions under the direction of the Facility Director, serves as an advisor in the development and administration of a correctional program and for development of individual programs for specific residents. Collaborates with the Facility Director in the design and execution of studies to determine program effectiveness and the need for modification and improvement. Analyzes the residents’ problems, develops recommendations to overcome these problems, and devises strategies and techniques for application to individuals and to the group. Participates with major impact on decisions affecting the resident’s program.
III. SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Evaluates resident’s progress, is responsible for case recording, provide assessment for release readiness, and gives direction to planning for the resident’s release.
- Provides direction in the analysis of vocational training needs, and selection of training or work assignments and establishment of goals for residents.
- Provides advice to the Director with respect to the maximum utilization of all community resources so that the positive attitudes and values can be strengthened, with the community as the focal point of orientation rather than City of Faith.
- Recommends referrals, which include an overriding consideration for the welfare of the community, together with a realization of the importance of maintaining security of the facility.
IV. DEMONSTRATED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
This position requires a demonstrated ability to follow detailed policies and procedures: to communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately; and to serve as a coach to the residents. Must have a good understanding of correctional history, law, philosophy, and practices, contemporary criminology theory, and must constantly work for self-improvement in the field of social work, interviewing and counseling techniques, and possess a comprehensive knowledge of the dynamics of human behavior and a thorough grasp of Case Management theory, methods, and principles. Demonstrated knowledge of word processing programs and applications. Must be familiar with the City of Faith emergency plan and with the physical plans of the facility.
