We have an exciting opportunity for a Supervisor of Accounting. This hybrid role will be based in one of our offices in Arkansas, Missouri, or Oklahoma.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Supervisor position is primarily focused on being the go-to person within the Accounting Department. This position will support the Accounting Manager and will work closely with other groups including FP&A, Regulatory, Operations, Engineering and Program Management and other operations departments. The position will ensure transactions are recorded in compliance with GAAP and FERC accounting standards and look for opportunities to improve processes. This is a supervisory position for individuals eventually seeking management and leadership positions within Summit. 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, mentor and train direct reports (one or two) including setting goals.
  • Update and maintain month end close schedule; identify efficiencies and enhancements.
  • Review and approve journal entries in accordance with month end close schedules.
  • Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations in accordance with month end close schedules.
  • Review monthly account reconciliations with staff, ensuring balance sheet accounts are accurate.
  • Work with FP&A and Regulatory to research and resolve any issues with financial results.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual utility commission regulatory reporting.
  • Assist with regulatory rate filings including data requests.
  • Assist with interim and year-end audits.
  • Ad hoc projects assigned by Manager.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s in accounting required.
  • At least 6 years of accounting experience required. 
  • Utility or similar industry experience required.
  • Supervisory experience a plus.
  • CPA a plus.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES 

  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and meticulous analytical capability.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and ability to implement changes accounting guidance.
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a remote office environment.
  • Business partner mentality with ability to educate basic financial concepts to stakeholders.
  • Ability to take initiative and manage multiple projects successfully while maintaining an even-keel approach and commitment to deadlines.
  • Ability to conduct and interpret quantitative/qualitative analysis with the proven ability to communicate complex financia
