What you’ll do

We’re looking for a Fabrication Specialist I to join the ArcBest Technologies team. The Fabrication Specialist I provides fabrication and manufacturing support for the Technology R&D team. This position works collaboratively with Engineering, Robotics, and other shop team members to fabricate prototypes or execute other complex projects.

Your contribution may include:

  • Collaborate with engineering and other lab team members to fabricate design prototypes for various complex projects.
  • Assist with building fixtures to ensure parts meet desired specification and appropriate quality standards.
  • Read and understand blueprints, rules, product schematics, general shop drawings, and assembly instructions.
  • Test and troubleshoot possible issues with prototypes and products to minimize problems or recalls and report malfunctions.
  • Operate all standard machine tools, including attachments and tooling, with skill, imagination, and minimal supervision.
  • Utilize other measuring equipment such as a tape measure, calipers, veneers, and height gauges in the fabrication process.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain shop equipment.
  • Produce metal structures using processes such as cutting, bending, and assembling.
  • Observe established safety policies and procedures in daily work activity.
  • Maintain a clean workspace for customer visits.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to accomplish department goals.
  • Maintain a positive attitude in a highly intense, yet rewarding, environment.
  • Other duties and projects, as assigned.

As a Fabrication Specialist I, you will be a member of the ArcBest Technologies Technology Research & Development team in Fort Smith, AR. Your hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, with irregular hours that may occur depending on workload.

Education: High school diploma or GED.

Experience: Minimum, one year of relevant experience, preferred. Previous experience with shop and metal working, preferred. Experience with fabrication and machining, robotic or automated equipment, and welding, preferred.

Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Certifications: Welding and fabrication certification, preferred.
