The Police Officer (Police Officer I, II or III) position, under general supervision, prevents and investigates violations of the law, University rules and regulations.
Salary Information: Expected salary range is $38,000 – $42,152 annually.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Patrols property under the jurisdiction of the University by car, bicycle or on foot. Enforces all criminal laws and violations of the Transportation Code of the State of Texas as well as university rules and regulations.
+ Takes reports and performs preliminary investigations. Reports all violations of the rules and regulations.
+ Prevents crime, suppresses disturbances, issues citations, and testifies in Justice of the Peace Court as well as County and District Courts and student judicial hearings. Guards and transports prisoners.
+ Interacts with the public, University staff and students daily. Provides assistance to the public whenever possible.
+ Responds to emergency calls and takes appropriate action.
+ Provides assistance to other law enforcement and community departments or agencies.
+ Arrests, cites, or refers persons as appropriate when in violation.
+ Testifies in court for criminal and traffic offenses.
+ Safely operates and properly maintains departmental vehicles.
+ Unlocks doors and buildings and assists campus community with vehicle jumpstarts, unlocks and tire changes.
+ Provides security during special details/events and security escorts when requested.
+ Documents all incidents both criminal and non-criminal.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Minimum Qualifications – Police Officer I
+ High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ One year of related experience.
+ Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
+ Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
+ Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) basic certification or ability to obtain TCOLE license within 90 days of hire for peace officers licensed in a border state (Arkansas, Louisiana, or Oklahoma).
+ Must have a State of Texas or Arkansas class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Minimum Qualifications – Police Officer II
+ High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ One year of experience as a licensed Police Officer.
+ Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
+ Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the campus population.
+ Ability to function under adverse and stressful conditions.
+ Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) basic certification or ability to obtain TCOLE license within 90 days of hire for peace officers licensed in a border state (Arkansas, Louisiana, or Oklahoma).
+ Must have a State of Texas or Arkansas class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Minimum Qualifications – Police Officer III
+ High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Three (3) years of experience as a licensed Police Officer.
+ Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
+ Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the campus population.
+ Ability to function under adverse and stressful conditions.
+ Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) basic certification or ability to obtain TCOLE license within 90 days of hire for peace officers licensed in a border state (Arkansas, Louisiana, or Oklahoma).
+ Must have a State of Texas or Arkansas class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Five (5) years’ experience as a licensed police officer
+ 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university
+ Active-duty service in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces
+ Experience as a Field Training Officer (FTO) and/or School Resource Officer (SRO)
+ TCOLE Certified Instructor
+ New Detective or Investigator School
+ Sexual Assault Investigator
+ Higher education/ISD experience and/or experience with the Texas Education Code
+ C.P.R. and AED certification
+ CLERY and/or Title IX training
+ Experience with Microsoft 365 applications
Other Requirements
+ Ability to work shift work, including weekends and holidays.
+ Must be able to qualify with TAMU-T provided firearm on a course of instruction approved by TCOLE.
+ Must be able to work effectively with all segments of the campus population.
+ All system university police will be required to meet minimum licensing standard requirements as required by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) § 217.1.
+ Must successfully pass psychological evaluation, physical examination, and complete background investigation to include but not limited to driving history, criminal background, and credit history.
+ Must pass a drug test.
