The Admissions Counselor, under general supervision, identifies, recruits, and contributes to increasing the population of admitted, enrolled, and underrepresented at-risk students. Primarily, the position is responsible for increasing enrollment within Dallas, Texas, Fort Worth, Texas, and rural areas around the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. In doing so, this person will serve as a liaison to high school and community college representatives and assist with research and development of recruitment strategies.
Job Location: This is a remote position, located in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas.
Salary Information: Expected salary range is $43,000 – $45,000 annually.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Identifies, recruits, and contributes to increasing the population of admitted, enrolled, and underrepresented students within a specified geographical territory.
+ Meets with prospective students and answers questions about the University, areas of study, and opportunities for students.
+ Ensures students are moving through the enrollment funnel efficiently by maintaining consistent communication (mail, phone, email and/or social media). This position requires heavy outbound call volume and close monitoring of underrepresented at-risk students.
+ Travels to high schools, technical schools, community or junior colleges, and community events to promote the University (public speaking required at times). Travel outside of the assigned territory is sometimes necessary.
+ Builds and nurtures partnerships with representatives from the assigned area high schools and community colleges to collaborate and develop initiatives to increase enrollment and simplify the transition to A&M-Texarkana. Evaluate and advise high school guidance counselors on AP classes and community colleges on TAMUT degree pathways.
+ Present information in individual and group settings for potential students on academics, admission process, financial aid, scholarship programs, and career opportunities.
+ Works directly with applicants and their families to submit missing documentation and address extenuating circumstances, complaints, and appeals of admissions denials.
+ Proposes, organizes, plans, and coordinates events and programs (accommodations, itineraries, catering, speakers, registration, advertisement, etc.) such as counselor updates and various workshops.
+ Completes reports on programs and projects to submit to the Director of Recruitment.
+ In collaboration with the Director of Recruiting, organize and facilitate data-focused recruitment and marketing strategies for their geographical territory to target prospective students.
+ As needed, assist with prospective and new student events such as Preview Day and SOAR – Student Orientation, Advising and Registration, and other special events and activities.
+ Access admissions/recruitment data via Web-Focus, CRM, Banner, and Laserfiche.
+ Maintain knowledge of TSI and ALEKS guidelines.
+ Represent A&M-Texarkana at recruitment functions for students outside our region, including college day programs at various junior high and high schools, community colleges, and business and industrial organizations.
+ Maintains excellent customer service practices and skills to develop relationships with prospective students and their families.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience
+ One year of related experience in advising and recruiting
+ Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
+ Knowledge of admissions functions of higher education
+ Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills
+ Must be able to load, transport, and set up display materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications
+ Two (2) years’ experience working with students in a college or university setting and/or in undergraduate admissions.
+ Experience in Undergraduate Admissions, plus knowledge of degree plans, transfer articulation matters, and Financial Aid programs.
+ Demonstrated experience in providing academic advising to prospective and returning students, individually or in groups, about college policies, programs of study, and degree options.
+ Familiarity with A&M-Texarkana campus, historical landmarks, and points of interest in the Texarkana area.
+ Bilingual (English/Spanish)

+ Ability to work remotely within and around the Dallas/Ft. Worth Area
+ Ability to travel (up to 60%) and work beyond normal office hours
+ Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
+ Knowledge of college entrance exams and instruments which assist students in the areas of academic and career choices, as well as knowledge of undergraduate admissions, financial aid, scholarships, academic and student services.
+ Ability to recognize and analyze problems, evaluate solutions, and make recommendations.
+ Strong computer skills and knowledge required to utilize computer generated reports and maintain related databases.
+ Must possess skills in communicating effectively with individuals and with groups of people of varying age levels and career positions.
