We are currently seeking an Utilities Engineer to join our team of talented employees! Role Description The Utilities Engineer is responsible for leading existing plant utilities systems including boilers, plant water and the waste water treatment system as well as oversight of the electrical distribution, compressed air, nitrogen systems and other utilities. This includes the direct supervision of shift Operators (5 persons) to operate the boilers and waste water system. The role is also responsible for technical (engineering) oversight of utility systems including tracking of performance vs. standard and the development of related capital projects. In addition, the role is responsible for providing plantwide Reliability Engineering support. Nature and Scope The Utilities Engineer has experience in supervision and serves as a conduit across all plant operations. He/she visibly demonstrates personal characteristics that support and contribute to a highly motivated and high performing team. The Utilities Engineer develops and executes standard operating procedures to meet and exceed period production targets for plantwide utility systems. The position reports to the Maintenance Manager and serves as the primary implementer of utilities related operational goals and objectives. Given the plantwide nature of the role and the interactions across all plant functions, the Utilities Engineer interfaces regularly with Area Supervisors and Engineers, EHS, and Maintenance, and Engineering to support Operations in meeting performance expectations. The Utilities Engineer overcomes routine obstacles to success related to staffing, equipment, facilities, and raw materials without management direction. The position requires the understanding of and compliance with all safe work practices and environmental regulations in a PSM environment. He/she will comply with all Plant policies regarding changes to a production process. Principal Accountabilities:

+ Visibly and substantially support the PennAKem safety culture through proactive employee engagement and by making safety a part of every action/decision.

+ Set expectations, accountability, and standards for Utilities to meet and exceed production objectives for the reporting period. Routinely (i.e. daily) verify performance to standards through in-person area monitoring and data review.

+ Support operating areas in the establishment of area specific utility performance standards.

+ Second level trouble shooting (in coordination with shift Operators) in evaluating and correcting failures in the manufacturing process.

+ Develop workplace culture and environment that promotes high performance through coaching, teamwork, and visible leadership.

+ Execute an Operator training and qualification plan to meet the near-term needs of the business and also support the long term integrity of the operating team.

+ Ensure Operator accountability to PennAKem performance and conduct standards. Implement corrective action per PennAKem policy when warranted.

+ Prepare periodic (daily, weekly) reports summarizing performance to key operating standards (process performance metrics, inventory, energy usage, overtime, etc).

+ Coordinate Operators and Maintenance/Contractor support to execute scheduled and unscheduled system repairs. Ensure adherence to restart schedule.

+ Update Standard Operating Procedures to current practice and write procedures for new or modified processes.

+ Ensure availability of raw materials and consumables through coordination with Purchasing and interplant product transfers.

+ Assess and monitor the condition of plant utility systems, and define needs for routine operation, maintenance, and capital upgrades.

+ Develop and implement small scope capital projects within the scope of the Utilities area.

+ Provide reliability engineering technical expertise for all operations including but not limited to utility systems.

+ Establish proper housekeeping standards with sustainability.

+ Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements: Experience and Education

+ + Minimum 5 years’ experience in supervisory/leadership role. Experience in a chemical manufacturing environment preferred.

+ Technical education with emphasis in chemical/mechanical processes is required. BS in engineering discipline and/or trade school degree, are typical, suitable examples. Other comparable education/training will be considered.

+ Significant manufacturing experience in Production or Maintenance supervision may be considered in lieu of formal technical education.

Managerial Skills

+ Scheduling of operating staff for 24×7 manufacturing processes and driving accountability to production targets.

+ On-call as needed to provide guidance to staff.

+ Ability to oversee and upgrade the existing on-the-job training process to develop employees’ knowledge and skills to the next level.

+ Proven ability to plan ahead and manage future needs, while satisfying a wide variety of near-term expectations.

+ Ability to write concise work instructions and performance summaries for daily and weekly reporting periods.

+ Ability to prepare effective plans to insure efficient shutdowns, startups, and continuing operations.
