Description:

The lab tech will work in a GMP food manufacturing environment where they will be responsible for:

Testing materials used as ingredients in yeast products for such qualities as purity, stability, viscosity, density, absorption, brix, and melting or flash point.

Testing solutions used in processes for chemical concentration, specific gravity, pH, brix or other characteristics.

Testing materials for presence and content of elements or substances such as hydrocarbons, manganese, sulfur, cyanide, ash, dust, or impurities.

Testing samples of manufactured yeast products to verify conformity to specifications.

Skills:

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Education-

BS in Biology or Chemistry OR an AAS in Biology or Chemistry

6 months to 1 year of recent relevant experience

Preferred experience-

Environmental lab experience is preferred because of the experience with strict regulations

Previous experience in a production environment is preferred because this person will have to go to the production floor to gather samples and bring back for sampling in the lab.

Some microbiology experience is a plus

Performance expectations-

Set up, adjust and operate laboratory equipment and instruments such as microscopes, centrifuge, agitators, scales, Fleischograph, spectrophotometer, and other lab equipment.

Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas

Record test results on standardized forms and writes test reports describing procedures used. Prepare graphs and charts.

Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment.

Calibrate laboratory instruments
