The National Practice Leader within TSU/TSG is a global technical and sales role with responsibility for growing the business through technical advancement, innovative applications, and CDM Smith brand promotion. As a “thought leader” at CDM Smith, you will present visionary and influential views on Transportation Planning within our practices both internally and to our clients. This includes a focus on innovation in corridor planning; statewide and regional transportation planning; multimodal and freight planning; NEPA planning; resiliency and sustainability planning; diversity, equity, and inclusion; travel demand modeling; and environmental planning related to transportation.
As the Practice Leader and visionary, you would contribute to CDM Smith’s growth by:
-Advancing the practice through technical ingenuity, innovation, and growing top line sales.
-Positioning us technically, ahead of challenges being recognized in the marketplace.
-Collaborating with the client service units, pre-positioning for major pursuits by identifying and showcasing our technical differentiators.
-Partnering with sales and technical leadership to build relationships with federal, state, regional, and local planning clients, with an ability to work successfully across markets.
-Leading technical luminescence activities including conference presentations, technical papers, and webinars.
-Recruiting and retaining strategic technical talent and the best and brightest employees.
-Developing, mentoring, and guiding technical specialists and discipline leaders within the practice and driving innovative ideas for research and development.

Minimum Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Urban, Community, or Regional Planning, or related discipline.
-AICP, PTP, PE, CEP, or approved certification in a related field. Or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Urban, Community, or Regional Planning, or a related discipline.
-15 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 14 years of experience with a Master’s degree.
-Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
-Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Demonstrated experience in scoping and delivering transportation planning contracts for public sector clients.
-Demonstrated experience in transportation planning consulting business development success.
-Demonstrated experience in thought leadership in the arena of transportation planning.
-Experience in industry organizations. Examples: Transportation Research Board (TRB), American Planning Association (APA), Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), and National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO).
-Thorough understanding of the federal transportation planning and project development process and related funding programs.
