As part of the Better East Texas initiative, Texas A&M University-Texarkana is launching an educational campaign to address the needs of this historically underserved region. To support this initiative, we are inviting applications for the Instructor/Assistant Professor/Associate Professor of Accounting position to begin Spring 2023 or Fall 2023. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a new volunteer income tax assistance (VITA) organization intended to provide a positive impact on East Texas. The VITA program, to be located in a newly established Center for Financial Literacy, will utilize volunteer student, faculty, and staff resources to provide income tax preparation assistance and education to the community. VITA volunteers will provide free basic income tax preparation services for qualified people. With funding from the Texas Legislature, Texas A&M University-Texarkana is hoping to attract a cadre of excellent faculty who will contribute to the best possible future for our service region.

The Instructor/Assistant Professor/Associate Professor faculty position in Accounting is responsible for the development, coordination, and teaching of accounting courses in the College of Business, Engineering, and Technology (CBET). The successful candidate will also be responsible for addressing student needs in Accounting and will assist the Dean in the implementation of short and long-term goals of the College.


+ Teach assigned courses and laboratories through various modalities

+ Demonstrated ability or potential to conduct quality scholarly research (Assistant/Associate Professor rank)

+ Work collaboratively with faculty across disciplines

+ Contribute to curriculum and course development

+ Serve on department, college, and university committees assigned by the Dean

+ Advise students

+ Maintain knowledge and stay abreast of current trends in learning with research, best practices in teaching, and technological applications in the classroom, including online teaching

+ Serve as the coordinator and faculty advisor for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program

+ To support teaching and administrative responsibilities, the tenure-track rank will carry an initial 2/2 courseload; the instructor position will receive a commensurate courseload reduction.

+ Other duties as assigned by the Dean


Minimum Qualifications

Instructor Rank

+ MSA or MBA degree with an emphasis in Accounting (with at least 18 graduate hours in Accounting) from an AACSB accredited university

+ Ability to teach a variety of courses within our BBA degree in Accounting

+ Commitment to high quality teaching, dedication to high standards, and student success

+ Excellent written and oral communication skills

+ Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals

+ Experience with VITA programs

Assistant/Associate Professor Rank

+ Earned doctorate in Accounting from an AACSB accredited university (ABDs with confirmed doctoral dissertation defense dates will also be considered at the rank of Instructor until the doctorate is conferred)

+ Ability to teach a variety of courses within our BBA and MSA degrees in Accounting

+ Commitment to high quality teaching, dedication to high standards, and student success

+ Excellent written and oral communication skills

+ Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals

+ Some experience with VITA programs

+ Demonstrated ability or potential to conduct scholarly research

+ For the rank of Associate Professor, commensurate teaching, and research experience

Preferred Qualifications (any rank)

+ CPA certification, especially for the rank of Instructor

+ Professional accounting experience (non-academic)

+ Experience in teaching upper or lower division courses at the university level utilizing current supporting technologies

+ Experience teaching online and face-to-face

+ Familiarity with accreditation processes (e.g. SACSCOC, AACSB) and assessment, including data collection, organization, and analysis

+ Commitment to connect students with the accounting profession
