Role Description

The Health and Safety Manager provides support to site EHS Management to continually improve health and safety performance. Serves as the primary advisor on all matters of occupational safety, occupational illness, and other employee health matters. Provides technical and authoritative expertise in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and directives of all occupational safety and health management program elements.Provides leadership and guidance to all levels on matters of employee safety and health, including senior executives, senior managers, supervisors, employees, and contractors. Principal Accountabilities:

+ Maintains a high regard for EHS, the safety of company assets and employees, and the public. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable company procedures, standards, and policies.

+ Sets standards and maintains accountability within areas of responsibility and promotes a strong safety culture which supports the site’s goal of an injury-free workplace.

+ Provides expertise in the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of risks to safety and health of plant personnel.

+ Supports field monitoring of employee exposures to job and chemical hazards.

+ Collaborates with Engineering, Operations, Purchasing, Finance, and other departments to address health and safety issues that may arise.

+ Coordinates with the EHS Director for planning, formulation and implementation of Occupational Health and Safety Programs to ensure compliance with related governmental regulations and reporting requirements.

+ Plans, develops, implements, directs, and evaluates a comprehensive safety and health program to provide a systematic approach for the elimination and/or control of safety and health risks associated with employee work exposures, and employee health and well-being.

+ Investigates mishaps involving Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA)-recordable employee injuries, close calls. Recommends and implements measures to prevent recurrence and advises employees/supervisors on accident prevention techniques.

+ Maintains recordkeeping for injury/illness cases in accordance with OSHA.

+ Responsible for delivering effective Health and Safety training.

+ Performs job safety analysis and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) assessments.

+ Audits and inspects facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify non-compliance.

+ Contributes to and assist in site emergency response program.

+ Assists in respiratory program elements, respirator fit testing, and maintenance.

+ Establishes and implement effective safety incentive programs.

+ Ensures adequate provision of First Aid, welfare supplies, and support on all projects.

Qualifications/Requirements: Experience and Education

+ Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, engineering, safety management, scientific discipline, or relevant field, specifically within a chemical company is strongly preferred.

+ At least five (5) years of progressive experience in health and safety.

+ Extensive knowledge of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and government regulations.

+ Understanding of workplace safety compliance standards.

+ Safe work permitting experience required.

+ Knowledge and experience in emergency response and HAZMAT response.

+ Experience with delivery of employee training.

+ Ability to multi-task, to manage shifting priorities, and to follow through on projects with minimal supervision.

+ Ability to communicate well with technicians and engineers.

+ Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.

+ Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products.
