Arkansas PBS is seeking a Radio Frequency Technician

The RF Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing digital transmission sites, installing new equipment, and maintaining remote telemetry return links. This position requires the ability to act independently following verbal and written direction from supervisors and manufacturer’s literature, to install and make repairs to broadcast television transmitters and all associated equipment microwave delivery system and IP based remote control systems used in all facets of the statewide public broadcasting network.

Trade School or Military Qualifications in Electronics with verifiable work experience, RF maintenance experience in Radio or Television broadcast with Society of Broadcast Engineers trade certification experience will be beneficial.

The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent IT networking and repair skills. Working knowledge of broadcast networks, equipment software programs and systems as applied to the effective delivery of television signals is required. A service support knowledge of power generation equipment, electrical power distribution equipment as well as HVAC and building environmental and mechanical services is needed. Ability to quickly assess problematic situations; formulate and implement effective solutions; articulate and document discrepancies; and work around major problems.

State vehicle will be provided for business use only due to the extensive daily in-state travel.

SALARY: Starting salary is $41,578.16 A higher starting salary would apply only if a promotional opportunity for a current state employee. Summary

The Digital Broadcast Specialist is responsible for maintaining and repairing digital transmission sites, installing new equipment, and maintaining remote telemetry return links. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Maintains and repairs digital transmission equipment located in assigned area statewide to ensure compliance with Federal Communication Commission (FCC) regulations and that viewers receive agency programming. Responds to malfunctions as reported by transmitter supervisors, identifies module and component level of malfunction, repairs and/or replaces component, and tests for proper working order. Installs battery back-up return links to assure continuation of power supply in event of power source failure. Performs routine and corrective maintenance on remote control telemetry return links to maintain contact with remote locations. Maintains inventory of spare parts for transmitters and digital equipment. Prepares and submits required reports. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of the calibration, maintenance, and repair of equipment. Knowledge of Federal Communication Commission rules and regulations. Ability to interpret schematics and manuals. Ability to operate electronic test equipment. Ability to maintain, repair, and install digital and electronic transmission equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus two years of experience in electronics repair and maintenance or related area. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
