Job Description

The non-tenure track faculty position of Lecturer of Mathematics is responsible for the development, coordination, and teaching of Mathematics courses in the College of Business, Engineering, and Technology (CBET). The successful candidate will possess documented capability in teaching and services and will be expected to foster the growth of first-rate Mathematics courses, including building on existing strengths within the College and through collaboration with other faculty in CBET. A successful candidate will also be responsible for addressing student needs in Mathematics and assisting the Department Chair and Dean in the implementation of short- and long-term goals of the College.

Responsibilities for the position

+ Teach assigned courses (15 credit hours per semester)

+ Assist with ABET accreditation activities

+ Work collaboratively with faculty across disciplines

+ Contribute to curriculum and course development

+ Serve on department, college and university committees assigned by the Chair or Dean

+ Serve on professional committees as approved by the Dean



+ A Master’s degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, mathematics education, or closely related field with at least 18 semester credit hours in mathematics or statistics at the graduate level at the time of employment

+ Ability to teach various courses within our Mathematics program

+ A passion and patience for teaching students’ foundational mathematical skills

+ Evidence of excellence in teaching.

+ Excellent oral/written communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

+ A Ph.D. in mathematics, applied mathematics, or mathematics education

+ Minimum 2 years of teaching experience in the college level.

+ Experience in teaching upper or lower division Mathematics courses utilizing current supporting technologies at the university level

+ Familiarity with accreditation processes (e.g., SACSCOC, ABET etc.) and assessment, including data collection, organization, and analysis

+ Research is not a requirement for this position, but research interests and efforts would be viewed favorably

+ Experience with student-centered learning and team problem solving

+ Ability to assist with university and professional service activities, including national and international outreach to, and collaboration with, industry and other academic institutions
