As part of the Better East Texas initiative, Texas A&M University – Texarkana is launching an educational campaign to address the needs of this historically underserved region. To support this initiative, we are inviting applications for the Assistant/Associate Professor of Accounting position. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a new volunteer income tax assistance (VITA) organization intended to provide a positive impact on East Texas. VITA will utilize volunteer student, faculty, and staff resources to provide income tax preparation assistance and education to the community. VITA volunteers will provide free basic income tax preparation services for qualified people. With funding from the Texas Legislature, Texas A&M University – Texarkana is hoping to attract a cadre of excellent faculty who will contribute to the best possible future for our service region.

The Assistant/Associate Professor faculty position in Accounting is responsible for the development, coordination, and teaching of accounting courses in the College of Business, Engineering, and Technology (CBET). The successful candidate will possess documented capability in teaching, scholarship, and service, and will be expected to foster the growth of first-rate Accounting courses, including building on existing strengths within the College and through collaboration with other faculty in CBET. The successful candidate will also be responsible for addressing student needs in Accounting and will assist the Dean in the implementation of short and long-term goals of the College.

Responsibilities for the position

+ Teach assigned courses and laboratories

+ Perform scholarly activities

+ Work collaboratively with faculty across disciplines

+ Contribute to curriculum and course development

+ Serve on department, college and university committees assigned by the Dean

+ Serve on professional committees as approved by the Dean

+ Serve as the coordinator and faculty advisor for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

+ program located in the newly created Center for Financial Literacy

+ Position carries an initial 2/2 load to support teaching and administrative responsibilities


+ Ability to teach tax courses, and other courses in at least one other area within our BBA and MSA degrees in Accounting

+ A passion and patience for teaching students foundational Accounting

+ A terminal degree in Accounting or related field

+ Research potential, desire, and capability is a requirement for this position

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

+ Terminal degree from an accredited institution in Accounting or a related field

+ Experience in teaching upper or lower division courses utilizing current supporting technologies at the university level

+ Familiarity with accreditation processes (e.g. SACSCOC, AACSB) and assessment, including data collection, organization, and analysis
