Production Operator

Job Description


Reporting to the Production Supervisor, and taking direction from the Team Lead/Supervisor, the Operator is responsible for loading and monitoring of materials in their area according to standards. Using knowledge of Structurlam’s products and equipment, the Operator inspects product, removing any defects from their area. Working as a team Operators are responsible for continuous operation of the equipment in their area to meet production goals. Working with maintenance to maintain properly working equipment.

Accountabilities: Strategic

·       Creates and promote a safe environment for the production and erection of structurally sound wood buildings by promoting a Culture to Care where health and safety come first

·       Contributes to maintaining Structurlam’s market leadership position by ensuring safe, efficient production of quality products

·       Consistently strives to meet or exceed targets (i.e. safety, operational efficiency, schedule)

·       Shares skills and abilities with other associates to maximize production and promote teamwork

Accountabilities: Operational

·       Ensures all work is performed in a safe manner and has a complete understanding of safety protocols, including emergency stop buttons, power switches and proper lockout procedures

o   Knows the OSHA requirements for the designated work area and makes sure requirements are met

o   Ensures awareness of all known hazards

o   Ensures appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used properly, is inspected regularly and is maintained

·       Maintains area equipment

·       Monitors levels of production

·       Reads and understands production lists

·       Operates equipment by demonstrating “One Right Way” safety procedures

·       Works closely with quality control and operations on quality

·       Keeps area in clean and orderly manner


·       Innovation – identify and manage opportunities and risks, using effective problem-solving communication skills to achieve the best possible results

·       Agility – consistently deliver unmatched quality and service to Structurlam customers by finding ways to do the right thing, at the right time to deliver an exceptional customer experience

Education, Experience and Physical Requirements

·       Demonstrates good computer and mechanical troubleshooting skills

·       Experience working in wood manufacturing environment a plus

·       Understands Quality Stardards for their area of operation

·       Safety Sensative position requiring ability to lift up to 50lbs, walking, stairs, pushing, pulling, repetitive motion, kneeling, squatting and balancing, exposure to loud noises and dust
