Job Description

Texas A&M University – Texarkana is launching the Better East Texas initiative, an educational campaign to address the needs of this historically underserved region. Funding from the 86th Texas Legislature enables us to hire an Assistant/Associate Professor faculty position in Finance to be responsible for the development, coordination, and teaching of finance courses in the College of Business, Engineering, and Technology (CBET). The successful candidate will possess documented capability in teaching, scholarship, and service. The candidate will serve as the coordinator of student-managed investment funds and provide leadership for other finance applied learning opportunities in collaboration with the Dean and business faculty. Additionally, the faculty will be responsible for increased student engagement in finance applied learning activities utilizing our soon-to-be-acquired Bloomberg terminals, business databases and computing software packages. The successful candidate will also be responsible for addressing student needs in Finance and will assist the Dean in the implementation of short and long-term goals of the College.

Responsibilities for the position

+ Teach assigned courses and laboratories

+ Perform scholarly activities

+ Serve as the coordinator and faculty advisor for the student-managed investment funds and related finance learning activities

+ Work collaboratively with faculty across disciplines

+ Contribute to curriculum, course development and executive education

+ Serve on department, college and university committees assigned by the Dean

+ Serve on professional committees as approved by the Dean

+ Position carries an initial 2/2 load to support teaching and administrative responsibilities

+ Serve as inaugural Chair of the Department of Economics and Finance

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum:

+ Ability to teach all Finance courses, especially Investments and International Finance, in both the graduate and undergraduate programs

+ A passion and patience for teaching students

+ Terminal degree in Finance/Financial Economics from an AACSB accredited university (ABDs with confirmed doctoral dissertation defense dates will also be considered)

+ Research potential, desire, and capability is a requirement for this position

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

+ Terminal degree in the field from an AACSB accredited institution with a specialization in Asset Pricing/Investments

+ Extensive knowledge of portfolio management, financial markets, as well as investments-related work experience

+ Experience in teaching upper or lower division courses utilizing current supporting technologies such as Blackboard and Canvas

+ Demonstrated ability or potential to publish in high-quality academic journals

+ Knowledge of Bloomberg Terminals, Business databases and a variety of computing software packages for teaching and research
