Job Description

The Operations Technology Network Engineering group builds the Wired and Wireless networks that power Amazon fulfillment centers and transportation sites worldwide. These networks are used by hundreds of thousands of associates, relied upon by operators of industry-leading fulfillment and transportation systems, and play a critical role in the delivery of shipments to Amazon retail customers. The Operations Technology Network Engineering team has broad scope supporting multiple business units globally, from the smallest delivery stations in emerging markets to the most advanced automated fulfillment centers in North America, Japan, and Europe. As a result of global scope, this group enjoys variety in both tactical and long-term strategic products.


We are looking for Network Security Engineers to provide technical thought leadership in the development of our next-generation networks. As we look to the future, our networks will support an ecosystem of robotics, industrial IoT, sensors, drones, and mobile devices. You are comfortable with taking risks, and iterating on designs that may fail at the outset to ultimately deliver robust systems that elegantly scale. In the Network Security Engineer role, you will ensure that the fulfillment and transportation infrastructure is securely designed and implemented with high standards to maintain customer trust. If you enjoy analyzing networks, system and services from a security perspective, and you are skilled at solving security challenges, this position will provide you with a challenging and rewarding opportunity. You will participate in the design, build, deployment and operation of security-focused infrastructure and provide consultation, architectural review, risk assessment of Amazon's systems and networks that support our vast Fulfillment Network spanning the globe. In this role you will also operate the security posture of largest fulfillment network in the world, and provide guidance to and mentoring to network support teams to develop their skills and reinforce security best practices. Network reliability and security are critical to Amazon Operations, and your responsibilities will include driving root cause resolution of network events most impactful to the business.


Responsibilities of a Network Security Engineer role include:

* Developing Network security infrastructure to support a variety of large scale robotics and automation systems

* Use your solid understanding of authentication protocols, core network and system security principles along with your up-to-date understanding of modern attack patterns and methods to drive security into tools used by Amazonian's every day

* Data-driven decisions are important to Amazon. You will draw heavily on your experience collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data from a variety of sources to create compelling written and verbal communications.

* Advise and consult with internal customers on risk assessment, threat modeling, and vulnerability remediation

* Support Incident Response Team with tooling and data

* Perform Network security design reviews and risk assessments

* Evaluate or create new technologies and services in order to solve complex security issues

* Develop network security best practices, refine operational procedure and constantly think pro-actively and with innovation


* A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

* Excellent , implementation, and skills combined with a proven documentation methodology.

* 3+ years' experience in designing and operating large-scale, Network security infrastructure

* 3+ years of experience with foundational networking technologies - Switching, routing protocols, specifically BGP and OSPF

* 3+ years of experience with network security hardware from major vendors including Juniper, Cisco and Palo Alto

* Experience in automation/scripting and or coding skills in multiple common languages (e.g. Perl, Python, Ruby, shell scripting, PowerShell)

* Experience with designing solutions in AWS or other cloud solutions.

* Experience with Industrial Controls Systems/SCADA/MES/DCS security and Industrial Protocols (Profinet, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, etc.)
