Job Description

Duties: Conduct advanced statistical analysis to determine trends and significant data relationships, build learning systems to analyze and filter continuous data flows and conduct offline data analysis, and train algorithms to apply models to new data sets. Validate models and algorithmic techniques, scale new algorithms to large data sets, combine data features to determine search models, and research new techniques and best practices within the industry, utilizing up-to-date technology, such as HBase, MapReduce, LAPack, and Gurobi, to support an assigned business segment. Utilize system tools, including MySQL, Hadoop, Weka, R, and Matlab,ILog, to interpret data and identify trends to go across future data sets and develop models of current state in order to determine improvements needed. Collaborate with an assigned business segment and review business strategies to ensure alignment across initiatives and determine a long-term vision by providing analytical support and guidance, using analysis of large data sets to develop multiple, complex custom models and algorithms to drive innovative business solutions. Provide analytical support and guidance to a large project team (for example, email targeting, business optimization, consumer recommendations) and cross-functional leadership within Walmart eCommerce, acting as the subject matter expert for statistical analysis and modeling. Translate business needs into data modeling initiatives, develop machine learning models to apply test data algorithms to future data, and lead the implementation of data modeling solutions.

 

Minimum education and experience required: PhD degree or the equivalent in Statistics, Engineering, or related field; OR Master’s degree or the equivalent in Statistics, Engineering, or related field plus 4 years of experience in data science, or related experience; OR Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in Statistics, Engineering, or related field plus 6 years of experience in data science, or related experience.

 

Skills required: Must have experience with: Writing SQL queries to retrieve and transform data from relational databases such as: (Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle PL/SQL, and Teradata); Extracting, transforming, cleaning, and loading data from different sources into one clean usable target database using data analysis tools such as: DataStage and Alteryx; Implementing applications in object-oriented programming languages such as: Java, Python, and C#; Using version control systems for code source control such as: Git and SVN; Using data visualization tools for analysis and business intelligence such as: Tableau, Power BI, WebFOCUS and Dundas BI; Using content workflow software such as: JIRA; Using project management software such as: Confluence, Microsoft Project, and SharePoint; Using Electronic Mail Software such as: Microsoft Outlook; Using web platform development software such as: JavaScript, ASP. NET, HTML and CCS; Extracting information from REST API using software languages such as: C# and Python; Using presentation software such as: Microsoft PowerPoint; Using spreadsheet software for data extraction and analysis purposes such as: Microsoft Excel; Using word processing software such as: Microsoft Word; and Using Internet Directory Services for security and user access to tools develop such as: Active Directory.
