Job Description

SUMMARY

The Category Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of a high-volume category of products with more complexity, including developing and implementing buying, pricing, and marketing strategies based on business trends and expertise to optimize sales and maximize supplier value. The Category Manager also selects, develops, and maintains quality vendors to ensure relationships are mutually beneficial to the business, and collaborates cross-functionally to create and drive action plans that ensure quality service to internal teams and outside customers. The Category Manager directly supervises individuals in the Assistant Category Manager position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

+ Translates knowledge of industry, consumer and category trends into actionable strategic business insights and recommendations to achieve both AutoZone Brand and customer goals and objectives

+ Conducts proactive analysis and provides shopper insight driven recommendations against all key business drivers related to category business reviews, assortment & space optimization, promotion & pricing effectiveness

+ Develops collaborative partnerships with key strategic customers so that the AutoZone Brand is viewed as the category leader in providing recommendations for the categories in which we compete

+ Works cross-functionally (Supply Chain, Marketing, Operations and Commercial) to develop processes to increase efficiencies, decrease cost, and meet customer demands

+ Sources and selects quality domestic vendors, negotiates programs, and analyzes market research to effectively put the right products in the right stores at the right prices

+ Uses information from sales, gross profit, and various ad hoc reports to make sure category meets established performance targets

+ Leads Merchandising Department training

+ Develops and implements fact-based presentations to deliver to senior management

+ Direct supervisory responsibility for Assistant Category Managers and Associate Category Managers, including employee development and performance management

REQUIREMENTS

+ Bachelor’s Degree

+ Three years of retail-merchandising experience

+ One year of experience managing others

+ Proficiency in MS Office programs (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
