Job Summary

This position is directly responsible for accurate financial bookkeeping of a freight trucking operation.  Daily job functions extend beyond basic journal entries, invoicing or billing.  To succeed in this role the incumbent must possess a sophisticated understanding of fundamental financial accounting and bookkeeping concepts such as: T-accounts; trial balances; closing entries; general ledgers; cash vs accrual base reporting.  A successful candidate will be expected to accurately: amortize expenses; calculate fixed asset depreciation of vehicles; make adjusting entries to accrue revenue and expense; correctly collate and submit financial reports to external State, Federal and insurance agencies as required.  The company also seeks this employee to have enough prior QuickBooks experience to competently operate this software without need for additional training.  An ideal applicant will have moderately advanced Microsoft Excel and computer literacy skills.  An exceptional applicant will also have a talent for strategic thinking and an aptitude for solving complex problems, to a level that could assist the company with building financial models and designing rigorous accounting processes and procedures in the future.

Key Responsibilities


  • Maintaining accurate record of all financial transactions
  • Timely processing of invoices and bills
  • Neat or organized filing of all finance paperwork
  • Compiling and submitting accurate financial data to external agencies as required
  • Tracking fixed asset depreciation of vehicle fleet
  • Producing the company’s end-of-month financial reports
  • Recording accurate on-hand quantities and cost pricing of vehicle inventory parts

Skills Requirements

  • Prior experience using QuickBooks Desktop accounting software
  • Moderately advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g. formulas, macros, conditional formatting)
  • Thorough understanding of T-accounting and double-entry bookkeeping fundamentals
  • Knows how to construct a Balance Sheet, Income Statement and Cash Flow Statement
  • Amortizing expenses

  • Accurate math skills

Minimum Qualification

  • A degree in finance or accounting.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a bookkeeping or accounting roles.

Desired Qualifications and Skills

  • An accredited CPA
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft’s Power Automate

Salary, Benefits and Expectations

  • Annual salary depending on experience
