Purpose and Essential Duties:

Fire Protection Designer’s responsibilities include staying informed of NFPA requirements as well as applicable local codes and standards applicable to Fire Protection Systems, althewhile maintaining a high level of output/production with a sure amount of confidence. Produce construction documents for contractor bidding and shop drawing preparation purposes. Participate in job site surveys, job meetings, general note-taking, and discussions associated with design projects. Maintain a high level of understanding of and high use level of the latest Revit version software AutoCAD, or other drafting software maintained by BTME particular to Fire Protection Design. The Fire Protection Designer performs technical activities on assigned projects under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer, NICET III, or NICET IV certified employee including participation in technical studies, investigations, and designs on assigned projects.

Specific responsibilities include:

+ Designs and prepares drawings for Fire Protection systems for building projects including conducting code review, sprinkler calculations, standpipe and sprinkler system layout, etc.

+ Attends meetings with owners, clients, and/or architects as needed; and prepares meeting notes.

+ Conducts site surveys to determine existing facility conditions and specific client needs.

+ Assists the design team in the coordination with other disciplines including structural architectural, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, civil, etc.

+ Accompanies senior level staff/project manager in performing project job site visits during construction to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications, owner expectations, and building codes. Assist in preparing punch lists and project observations reports to note findings.

+ Actively attends in-house training sessions to obtain knowledge in necessary technical areas.

+ Must continually seek NICET II certification in water-based systems layout.

+ Is expected to perform tasks with moderate supervision.

+ Other duties as assigned.

This position is Full Time, Exempt, and reports to the

Travel Requirements About 25% of travel is required including overnight stays out of state. Must be able to travel by plane and automobile. Valid driver’s license required.

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

+ Must have a degree from a technical school with a focus on Revit or two years experience using Revit or other design software.

+ Must have strong written and oral communication skills.

+ Must be able to comprehend code terminology and possess the skills necessary to apply the code or standards.

Preferred Qualifications

+ NICET II Certification

+ Two years experience in Fire Sprinkler Design.

+ Two years of field installation of Fire Protection Systems

Travel Requirements About 25% of travel is required including overnight stays out of state. Must be able to travel by plane and automobile. Valid driver’s license required.

Physical/Work Environment Requirements

+ Must be able to work in an office environment.

+ Must be able to ride/drive/fly for long distances.

+ Must be capable of field surveying; measure and accurately document job site conditions legibly.

+ Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, and climb a ladder on job sites.
