A Protection, Metering & Communication Technician I provides the technical skills required to give AECC a soundly constructed, properly maintained, and reliably operated power delivery system. Responsibilities

 

 

 

Participates in the installation, maintenance and testing programs for the organization and member cooperatives' protection systems, meters, or communication systems.

Ensures compliance with organization's prescribed System Maintenance, Reliability, and Testing Program and all matters of NERC compliance and record-keeping.

Reads substation data, collects and logs data, visually inspects equipment at each substation and reports problems.

Maintains and operates test equipment and tools used for construction, operations, and maintenance of protection system maintenance, meters, and communications equipment.

Assists with the inspection, use and maintenance of mobile substations located within a district or region.

Instructs and trains technician helpers on technical, operational and safety standards.

Participates in safety meetings on a monthly basis, including technical topics.

Advises other personnel and member cooperative's personnel, upon request, of facts relating to this area of responsibility and assists them in in the performance of their duties in times of need.

Must be able to work with minimal supervision on assigned projects, including logging and maintaining documents suitable for NERC compliance.

Successful completion of prescribed NLC course lessons in Power Delivery Department training program or other prescribed training program as required.

Performs directed switching with written switching orders.

Handles stress effectively and works well with others.

 

 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

 

 

Pursuant to the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Act 593, this position is designated safety-sensitive according to AECC/AECI standards and processes.

EEI Position Testing will be conducted as part of the selection process.

As a condition of employment, this position requires a post-offer pre-employment drug test and requires passing a DOT physical.

Valid Driver's License, must be able to obtain Class A CDL within 12 months of employment.

High School Diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must be able to travel to various locations throughout the state of Arkansas and stay overnight as required to complete work assignments.

Must be able to work extra hours when necessary and report to work whenever needed during non-scheduled working periods.

Minimum Experience Required

Apprentice I: No minimum experience required. Must complete Apprentice I QUAL Card within twelve months of employment.

Apprentice II: Minimum 1 year related experience. Must complete Apprentice II QUAL Card within 36 months of employment.

Tech I: Minimum 3 years related experience. Successful completion of prescribed NLC course lessons in Power Delivery Department training program or other prescribed training program as required.

Tech II: Minimum 5 years related experience. Successful completion of prescribed NLC course lessons in Power Delivery Department training program or other prescribed training program as required.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate Degree in Electronics, Civil/Electrical Engineering Technology, Construction Management or equivalent

Formal training and/or Certification in Circuit Breaker, Power Transformer, and/or Transmission Line Maintenance and Testing

Industrial Certification in Hydraulics Management, oil-filled equipment or other large industrial machinery would be preferred

Mobile Crane Operator Certification.

Training and Certification in Doble, Megger, Dilo, and similar test equipment

Journeyman Electrician License or Master Electrician License

Substation Technician Certification
