Summary of Position

The Sr. Category Development Manager is responsible for translating category management principles into action through data analytics and consumer/shopper insights. This is a Walmart Advisor role where the primary focus is to support the Walmart Baby business, brick & mortar and ecom. Day to day functions include partnering with the Walmart Buying team to drive Category Topline, Walmarts Dollar Share, and Net Sales. This individual will need to conduct advanced analytics and develop data inspired strategies, recommendations, and tactics for the Walmart Baby business utilizing Walmarts internal data, syndicated data, Panel and shopper data, as well as Consumer/Shopper insights.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct strategic category and channel analyses and reports, incorporating appropriate resources. Utilize data sources to build strategies that drive exceptional results. Perform strategic competitive analyses by category and brand to capture trends, opportunities, and challenges for core business areas.
  • Analyze and evaluate shopper trends and consumer purchasing behavior. Translate complex metrics and analytics into valuable strategic insights for consumer dynamics in supporting sustainable growth.
  • Develop strategic business plans, vision, tactics and strategies for achieving category growth.
  • Support priority requests for data/information/presentations to drive dynamic growth. Contribute to creating strategic presentations as a credible Category Management Advisor to Walmart.

Ability to provide digital insights and recommendations in relation to search, navigation, site layout and optimization, and assortment.

Provide best in class omni competitive and shopper insights using multiple data sources (POS, Nielsen, Numerator, Keepa, site audits, etc.)

Minimum Requirements

Education required:

Minimum of Bachelors degree.


5+ years Customer Development - Previous experience successfully driving category and/or brand plans, strategy development, merchandising knowledge and analytical skills are required. Demonstrated project management and leadership skills. Must have fundamental knowledge of Walmarts modular process and execution.


Results, strategy and vision orientation, leadership, sound oral and written communication, ethical judgment and decision making, resources and team management, change management, mentoring, analytical, project and risk management and building relationships.

Preferred Experience/Qualifications:

Knowledge of syndicated data, household panel data, Geo-Demographic data, shopper research, marketing concepts and advanced data software. Experience working with, or Online Grocery Pick-Up. Self-utilization of Numerator/InfoScout, Content Analytics, Tableau, Kantar Consulting (Monitor Gateway and Retail IQ), and syndicated data. Demonstrated project management and leadership skills.
