The Park Interpreter is responsible for planning, coordinating, directing, and presenting interpretive programs and special events to park visitors, civic groups, and private organizations. Duties include researching and recording data regarding programs, flora and fauna of the park, organizing and preparing press releases, reports, and brochures, preparing presentations, exhibits, and written scripts for audio-visual programs, supervising park operations in the absence of other uniformed personnel, and assisting the superintendent in planning and operations. Other duties include trail walks, kayak tours, demonstrations, public relations, conservation and protection of plant and animal life in the park, trail development and maintenance, performing office duties, providing monthly input to the superintendent and program services department, supervise seasonal facilities (pool), and other duties as assigned. Applicant must be able to work a varied shift, including weekends and holidays, work in inclement weather, traverse rough terrain on foot and lift 50 pounds. A criminal background check and a driver’s record check will be performed.

Applicants must meet or exceed the following qualifications: the formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in natural science, communications, parks and recreation management, or a related field.
