Unit Secretary serves as a receptionist for patient levels by receiving, greeting and directing patients, visitors, hospital staff and physicians. Responsible for timely and accurate transcription of physician orders via written/computer entry. Maintains patient records by properly identifying each form with appropriate labels, updating rolodex cards and patient files. Charts procedures test results in an accurate and timely manner. Maintains patients chart by keeping dividers in proper order and replacing when necessary. Responsible for accurate charge entry and auditing. Responsible for adequate inventory of supplies and upkeep of office machines. Keep medications, forms and supplies moving from ancillary department to nursing zone; demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with others in communication and problem resolution; is sensitive to the needs of patients, families, and fellow co-workers; provide service for patients/families in accordance with age specific needs as related to job functions; provide service for patients in accordance with any identified cultural diversity needs (such as religions, lifestyles, beliefs, physical capabilities, and cultures); provide service for patients by assuring appropriate and effective pain management, as indicated by job function, which is maintained through appropriate notification to nursing staff. Supports the mission of Mercy. Co-workers are expected to abide by Mercy Hospital Fort Smith safety and infection control policies to maintain a safe environment for patients and co-workers.
Education: High school graduate with good communication skills required.
Experience: Entry level.
Preferred Other: Computer knowledge, medical terminology
