Department's Website:https://www.garvangardens.org/Summary of Job Duties:The Horticulture Specialist is responsible for the routine maintenance and care of assigned garden spaces, plant nursery, and greenhouse facility. The potential focus of this position will be the Flowering Border Garden and highly detailed areas surrounding the Welcome Center and Pavilion. A strong background in ornamental plant materials and formal pruning methods is desired. Duties include mulching, weeding, watering, planting, pruning, and other horticultural responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.

 

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.Qualifications:

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma

 

Two years of experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, or related area, including one year in a leadership capacity

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

Experience working in botanical garden or related outdoor museum setting

 

Presents well and is comfortable interacting with public

 

Experience with presenting to and instructing small groups

 

Experience or training in formal gardening techniques

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 

Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in landscaping and grounds maintenance

 

Knowledge of operation of landscape equipment

 

Basic knowledge of irrigation system operation
