Position Summary:

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Arkansas State University seeks applications for a temporary spring semester instructor for position in Statistics, with a starting date of January 1, 2022. The department’s programs include the B.S. Mathematics, B.S.E. Mathematics, M.S. Mathematics, M.S.E. Mathematics, and M.S. Statistics, undergraduate minors in both mathematics and statistics, and a Ph.D. Minor in Statistics. The department teaches undergraduate and graduate statistics courses that support many degree programs on campus and enrollment is growing.

Duties & Responsibilities:

+ Each member of the faculty has the duty to deliver instruction and maintain a learning environment consistent with the highest standards of the profession

+ The faculty have a responsibility to set course and program requirements, assess when they are met, and establish and maintain curricula that meet professional standards and fulfill the educational goals of the University

+ The members of our faculty are devoted to teaching, maintaining strong research programs, and actively participating in local and national professional societies in statistics or mathematics

+ Primary teaching responsibilities for the temporary instructor will be teaching undergraduate courses in statistics and (if applicable) undergraduate courses in mathematics

+ In addition to teaching, all faculty participate in curriculum development

+ Temporary faculty members teach a diverse student body and perform some service for the department

+ Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required or applicable to the position responsibilities and area of specialization including special abilities.

General Days/Hours:

Monday – Friday

8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

University computer labs are well-equipped, with access to R, SAS®, MINITAB® and SPSS®, and allow students to program using full versions of statistical software packages often used in the market

Minimum Qualifications:

An earned M.S. in Statistics or a closely related field by October, 2021, however Ph.Ds. are encouraged to apply

Successful college teaching experience (may include TA experience) and a strong mathematics/statistical background

Appropriate experience to demonstrate potential to teach a variety of courses in the statistics curriculum
