Safety Statement:

This is a safety sensitive position.

Job Purpose:  A working team leader who coordinates activities of the mechanics such as troubleshooting and diagnosing problems as well as performing mechanical repairs to ensure proper performance and safety of motorized vehicles.    

Essential Functions:

  • Oversees subordinates, inspecting their work to make sure standards have been met while providing support and advice with repairs.
  • Advanced knowledge of diesel, propane and gasoline engine maintenance and repair.  
  • Schedules maintenance and direct repairs on various gas/diesel/propane machinery.  
  • Advanced knowledge of troubleshooting hydraulics and repair.
  • Troubleshoots electrical and mechanical defects on various equipment using diagnostic equipment.
  • Rebuilds, replaces, or repairs major vehicle components, assemblies, and systems including engines, transmissions, suspensions, etc.  
  • Welds and performs body work on machinery.
  • Manages inventory and order parts as needed.
  • Identifies issues and determines repairs that are needed.
  • Plans maintenance schedules.
  • Operates tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.  
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
  •  Ensures shop, equipment, and tools are in safe operating condition.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and reports any condition that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  • Assists supervisor with yearly performance evaluations of subordinates.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent and at least 3 years of vehicle maintenance experience.
  • 2+ years of experience managing, supervising, and/or leading people.
  • Ability to work independently within the guidance and expectations of direct management.
  • Ability to communicate with clarity, both verbally and in written forms.
  • Must be able to speak English.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Strong leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to drive forklift, genie boom, scissor lift, and backhoe.        Must pass genie boom, scissor lift and forklift test.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to exercise initiative/judgement in work methods and in interpreting and delegating work requirements/goals.  
  • Must be able to demonstrate excellence in approach to work and people activities.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to identify issues and to determine repairs that are needed.
  • Ability to plan maintenance schedules.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass Virco driver’s background check and forklift driving test.
  • Must have the ability and awareness to recognize sights and sounds in the workplace which the employee might encounter.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software as needed to complete reports, logs and inventory.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Commercial driver’s license (CDL) is a plus.
