Role Summary/Purpose

As a critical member of the enterprise Product Management team, the successful candidate will be responsible for helping drive & achieve Synchrony’s business objectives with innovative products and capabilities and will demonstrate SYF’s ability to understand and meet our clients’ needs through technology-driven, innovative solutions and enhancements. This leader will need to be both a Product strategist and an executor. The individual must be a strong communicator who functions well in a highly matrixed corporate environment and help identify opportunities for product expansion and enhancement that enables business growth. He/She will form a strong partnership with the DD&E team as well as strong cross-functional relationships with Technology, Operations, Credit & other critical functions to drive these focus areas.

The Digital Payments Capability Manager for Digital Wallet/Payments/CAL/Digital Pass will provide subject matter expertise and support for current portfolios and product expansion, customer experience and product enhancements. The team member will work with a cross functional team to support the product as well as quality assurance for on-going product capabilities and platform operations. He/she will provide oversight regarding new portfolio product launches and will support ongoing enhancements. The leader will focus on facilitating understanding of the technical components of our systems, defining processes, test, audit method, controls, and developing tools and procedures to ensure product success.

This position is currently remote, where you’ll be work from home, but may be required to work in one of our offices in the future or occasionally commute to one our offices for in person engagement activities such as team meetings, training and culture events.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

+ Manage, develop, and drive Synchrony’s Digital Payments and Digital Account capabilities across all platforms. Lead the vision, strategy and roadmap of innovative new capabilities to keep the business as an industry leader in the Payments space.

+ Partner with the DD&E, as well as various technology teams to drive efficiency and commercialization of the product across the franchise. This includes developing and promoting how this innovation is meeting the rapidly changing needs of our business, partners, and customers by telling the story internally, with our partners and industry.

+ Lead planning meetings and provide advice and guidance on direction of product.

+ Responsible for researching and understanding industry insights, consumer intel and market analysis, and benchmarking Synchrony’s products against competition – coordinating and communicating findings across clients and platforms. Will require collaboration with customers, research and insights, team members, and outside influencers to ensure a solid and well-rounded understanding of products and developing needs.

+ Collaborate with product marketing on the marketing and positioning for your product.

+ Liaise with Business Development and Portfolio GMs to ensure SYF’s Digital Payments abilities are appropriately represented in RFPs, that business cases are developed with the optimal product strategies, and to guide the new business implementation teams to ensure the product is built properly for new portfolios.

+ Partner with Analytics to deliver insights on product performance and inform future enhancements, commercialization, and marketing of capabilities

+ Work with cross-functional teams to identify gaps, product needs and growth opportunities while partnering with key stakeholders to help prioritize efforts against other initiatives.

+ Proactively engage with Compliance and Legal to ensure adherence with all external and internal compliance and regulatory requirements.

+ Own capability enhancements from ideation to execution, including specifications and requirements, wing-to-wing experience, testing and cost/benefit analysis. Lead cross-functional teams, in a matrixed environment, through project plans that include major milestones, critical risk indicators, measures of success and contingencies

+ Coordinate efforts with other product and capability managers to commercialize across Synchrony’s platforms and portfolios. Drive product implementation, ensuring innovative solutions supporting business strategy.

+ Monitor and report on key metrics for the products to assess the success of the capabilities and features and determine necessary enhancements.

+ Strong communication skillset and executive presence is key – Frequent meetings with Clients, Client teams and senior leadership.

+ Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned


+ Bachelor’s Degree or, in lieu of a degree, a high school diploma/GED and 12 years of product experience in the credit card or financial services industries, e-commerce experience a plus

+ Strong knowledge of underlying digital payments technology or merchant point of sale payment CX

+ Minimum of 8 years marketing or product experience that includes:

+ A proven track record of launching new products or applications with demonstrated business impact

+ Ability to influence and coordinate multi-functional teams

Desired Qualifications:

+ Credit card, consumer finance or financial services industry experience

+ Demonstrated ability to manage complex initiatives and projects in a matrixed environment.

+ Outstanding communications, relationship building, influencing and collaboration skills.

+ Strategic thinking with ability to develop and implement actionable plans to drive business results.

+ 10+ years marketing or product innovation/management experience

+ 5+ years managing people and teams

+ Strong background working with clients, reporting on performance and delivering results.

+ Demonstrated project management skills.

+ Advanced problem-solving skills with the ability to develop innovative solutions in a fast-changing environment.

+ P&L experience with solid understanding of business financials

+ Current on financial services, payments industry trends, competitors, emerging technologies and companies

+ Strong technical knowledge (financial services)

+ Product commercialization experience, Marketing and communications expertise

Eligibility Requirements:

+ You must be 18 years or older

+ You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

+ You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

+ You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

+ New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 24 months’ time in position before they can post. All internal employees must have at least a “consistently meets expectations” performance rating and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance requirement).
