The Broadcast Engineer will oversee the day-to-day technical operations and maintenance of the Grizzlies, FedExForum and Grind City Media Broadcast facilities, including but not limited to the center hung video board, video control rooms, LED boards in and outside FedExForum, concourse TVs, outdoor marquees, broadcast rooms and more. This position will also act as an event lead for engineering needs for all Grizzlies and Tiger games, FedExForum shows and Grind City Media productions.
+ Lead and ensure all maintenance, reporting & upgrades for broadcast facilities are scheduled and carried out in a timely manner including but not limited to TV & Radio broadcast, interview & storage rooms, control & engineering rooms along with patch bays throughout FedExForum;
+ Proactively troubleshoot the technical broadcast operations and needs of FedExForum facilities and act as lead to ensure all software, hardware and other production equipment and support is up to date;
+ Lead Grizzlies & Tigers game day and event engineering duties including Mobile Unit integration at FedExForum, HSAN feeds, home & visitor broadcast feeds for television & radio;
+ Work with Manager, Broadcast Production to liaison with NBA Broadcast Technical Ops to ensure FedExForum (Grizzlies) and Landers Center (Hustle) meet and operate to NBA standards;
+ Manage systems and relationships, plus troubleshoot and develop creative presentations using Ross Dashboard, Ross Talk, NDI and Xpression technology;
+ Work with the Event Operations team and Manager of Broadcast Production & Operations, to ensure all broadcast needs are met for Grizzlies & Tigers games along with FedExForum shows & events;
+ Communicate equipment orders & upgrades with researching of estimates, budget tracking, & invoice tracking. Actively research potential new technologies & vendors within the industry;
+ Work with Sr. Creative Lead & Archivist to assist with engineering needs, maitinance and procurement of production and video storage systems including but not limited to CATDV, Spectra Logic, Quantum, Premiere, cameras, lens and other broadcast equipment;
+ Lead and handle all transmission request and technical needs for FedExForum;
+ Work with Manager of Broadcast Production to ensure any remote event broadcasts, set-up, production, live stream or other needs are met and act as an on-site engineer;
+ Assist Broadcast Operations Manager and Archivist to ensures all master recorded materials from Broadcasts (TV & Radio), In Arena, Remote and digital productions are archived within house media library system;
+ Assists Senior Director of Content & Broadcast Production as with budgetary updates;
+ Assist Managers of Broadcast Operations and Production with all facility, technical, and production needs for the Memphis Hustle & University of Memphis Productions;
+ Other related duties as required.
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Digital or Broadcast/TV production, or the equivalent work experience.
+ Minimum of four (4) years’ in an equivalent role / broadcast engineering capacity, including set up live TV broadcast, sports broadcast or live in arena sporting events and production.
+ Technical Knowledge and background with multi-source presentation production for In-Arena and Broadcast environments.
+ Problem solver with a degree of independence, but also as an open and complete communicator.
+ Understanding of, and practical application of evolving broadcast and IT technologies and environments.
+ Working knowledge of broadcast computing and techniques for processing, storing, and use of visual & audio data, including transferring & conversion of data.
+ Strong understanding of file formats, video codecs, digital resolutions, & broadcast transmission systems.
+ Ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
+ Strong planning and organization skills.
+ Ability to multi task, meet strict deadlines, and work with minimal supervision.
+ Willingness to research and learn new types of digital technology.
+ Proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel, Adobe Creative programs.
+ Must be available to work mornings, evenings, holidays, and weekends as required.
+ Knowledge and passion for NBA basketball.
+ Background and understanding of transcoding and distributing media.
