Control Systems Engineer – Central Team

A proactive facilities controls and technical support leadership role for fulfillment center operations, focusing on maximizing equipment reliability and operational performance of equipment such as conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print and apply systems, and SCADA devices and programs. Typically supports a multi-property portfolio within a given region with multiple owners.
Duties and Responsibilities:
§ Understand, maintain and troubleshoot material handling control systems, including PLC/PC controllers and industrial networks such as Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, AS-Interface, Profibus, labeling and parcel sortation system, motor control systems, servo drives, frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems
§ Work closely with FC Operations, Operations Engineering, FC Start up Team, AFT Software teams, ACES team, and Safety in supporting MHE systems optimization and project implementation.
§ Monitor MHE metrics and partner with facilities/operations for system performance issues and provide analysis and solutions across all supported FC’s.
§ Act as second level escalation support for the CST and CSL teams, both locally and assigned FC’s or remotely troubleshoot and repair all hardware or controls software systems within the building. Appropriately escalate downtime situations to vendors or AE Team for support to restore equipment operation.
§ Facilitate Failure Analysis and Incident Review processes and implement process improvements or retraining to avoid future incidents. Create technical program playbooks and procedures.
§ Assist with skill assessments for the Technical positions within the Reliability, Maintenance, and Engineering (RME) teams.
§ Conducts readiness audits and technical drills.
§ Develops specifications and assist in solicitation and administration of maintenance/repair service contracts.
§ Coordinate technical resources to support commissioning, training, and (IQOQ) installation qualification, operational qualification and performance qualification for new launch and existing FCs.
§ Train and develop Control Systems personnel on controls systems concepts and procedures.
§ Contribute to knowledge base through development of Policies, Procedures, and Standard Work documents.
§ Proven project management ability to manage several concurrent projects successfully.
§ Assist with process and procedure training as requested.
§ Perform reliability analysis of the maintenance program by performing in-depth root cause analysis (RCA).
§ Partner will OEM, vendors and business stakeholders; designing, developing, and implementing solutions that will optimize equipment performance
§ Physical requirements include stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs / ladders and ability to lift / carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more
§ Performs other duties as assigned.
§ Ability to travel up to 70% to various fulfillment centers is required
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) from four-year College or university and a minimum of four years’ experience and/or training. Or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge and understanding of all applicable practices and techniques, laws, project controls and environmental regulations to include safety regulations.
§ Ability to use work order system.
§ Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and intranet/internet.
§ 4+ years Allen Bradley PLC programming experience using RSLogix 5000 and RSLinx experience with at least two full cycle of PLC ladder logic code design, development and testing
§ Experience with creating automated alarms, reports and KPI metrics for plant management
§ Experience with creating HMI for operational equipment configuration and settings
§ Strong knowledge in project development methodology, clear verbal and written communication skills, has the ability to handle daily activities in a dynamic environment and drive deliverables.
