Coordinates the steel shop production activities, sets up production methods and processes, and then recommends improved methods and processes. Ensures that production tools and supplies are available, helps maintain a high quality of workmanship, and maintains routine contacts with support groups.

Duties and Responsibilities

*Coordinates steel shop production activities by planning manpower requirements and by assigning employees to meet production schedules.

*Helps set up production methods and processes to facilitate production.

*Recommends new or improved steel shop production methods and techniques and helps coordinate such approved changes.

*Ensures that necessary production tools and supplies are always available to steel shop employees.

*Works with steel shop staff to assist employees in maintaining a high level of quality workmanship.

*Maintains routine contact with support departments to keep them aware of manpower needs, personnel actions, and pay issues.

*Ensures that safety and housekeeping standards are met and maintained.

*Performs other duties as directed by the Manufacturing/ Operations Manager.


Education and Experience

*Prefer an associate’s degree or the equivalent

*Prefer at least four years’ shop experience and knowledge of welding/steel production methods, processes, and product specifications

*Prefer two years’ supervisory experience
