Job Description

As a VP of Engineering, you will be responsible for leading people and projects in a fast paced, startup environment. In addition to strong leadership skills, you will be expected to bring technical expertise and deep architectural experience to the table. Our engineering team has scaled rapidly over the past two years and will continue to do so.

Our engineers are intrinsically motivated and talented. We’re looking for someone who can, in concert with our CTO and other VPs of Engineering, harness the team’s motivation and abilities to accomplish more and finish work faster. Below we outline additional priorities and experience we would like to see: Architectural experience You’ve worked on a scaling product or platform with a team. You have hands-on experience making decisions for the best way to architect new products/features to work with existing products/platforms. Ideally, you’ve been part of rearchitecting successful products to scale further with larger databases, more active users, and more complex needs. Ideally, you find solutions that address both the team and user needs but if not, help build understanding around difficult decisions. Technical expertise You’re able to coach and advise engineers as needed. Your past technical experience gives you credibility to engage in multiple frameworks, engineering principles, and software development methodologies. You’re able to add value to any technical context to provide clarity and good thought processes. Additionally, we expect you to mentor mid-level and senior engineers in their work and careers. Although experience in our specific stack (Ruby, Rails, Vue.js, ES6, AWS, etc) is not required, we are looking for someone who is willing to learn as needed and has expertise in modern frameworks and has learned new technologies recently. Leadership You understand that leadership is more than experience and expertise. You know how to inspire and influence teams to accomplish their best work together. You’re also attentive to and curious about how Apptegy works, thinks, and aims to achieve uncommon results. We believe Apptegy should be a challenging place to work for all the right reasons.
