The UAMS Department of Pathology is seeking a motivated individual to join our team! Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to be a Medical Laboratory Scientist in a cutting edge university Microbiology lab? Do you have excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills and are you willing to help us to continue to supersede our teamwork and collaborative goals? This position will allow you to work on an advanced team with instrumentation such as the GeneXpert Infinity, GenMark ePlex, Biofire Torch, Biomerieux Virtuo, Mass Spec and Vitek XL. The Microbiololgy MLS works in the CAP accredited clinical laboratory under direction of the Supervisor and Medical Director and is responsible for performing the following essential functions:
SARS-CoV-2 and other automated PCR testing
Specimen processing and microorgansim identifications and succeptibilities
Troubleshooting pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical testing malfunctions
Exercises judgment and technical expertise during subjective testing processes
Instrument maintenance and calibrations
Maintaining safe work practices

Salary: offered commensurate with experience
Performs testing of patient samples, interprets, reviews, and prepares patient test results for review by the Supervisor and/or Medical Director. May or may not be trained on all benches, but is progressively increasing in knowledge and experience.
Maintains all aspects of QC and QA relevant to the CAP certification standards.
Interacts with staff from various departments to coordinate the proper acquisition, testing and reporting of patient test results.
Ensures that the supplies used in the testing of patient samples are available in adequate quantities and that they are used efficiently.
Assist in employee/student training and employee competency as assigned.
Special projects and other duties as assigned.
MLS I Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology or an ASCP approved discipline (30 semester hours in biology and chemistry, which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the Bachelor's).
ASCP or equivalent Generalist Clinical Laboratory Scientist certification (CLS), Medical Technologist (MT) certification or Microbiology certification passed within 12 months of hire.
1-2 years of Clinical Laboratory experience.
MLS II Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology or an ASCP approved discipline (30 semester hours in biology and chemistry, which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the Bachelor's) plus two (2) years of Clinical Laboratory experience.
ASCP or equivalent Generalist Clinical Laboratory Scientist certification (CLS), Medical Technologist (MT) certification or Microbiology certification (M).
2 years of experience in a Clinical Laboratory.
Knowledge of testing methods currently in use in the Microbiology Laboratory.
