Come join an advanced Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory who has recently been recognized for their accomplished teamwork. We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist that has excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills, and will help us to continue to supersede our teamwork and collaborative goals. The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory is proudly leading the CoVid-19 testing for UAMS Health and our community by performing SARS-CoV-2 testing. This position will also allow you to perform PCR based testing including MSI, Chimerisms, Viral Loads, BRAFs, B and T Cell Clonalities and more. In addition you will learn to prepare, process and analyze FISH. The Molecular Diagnostics MLS works in a high complexity laboratory under direction of the Supervisor and Medical Director and is responsible for performing the following essential functions:
SARS-CoV-2 specimen triage and testing
Troubleshoots pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical testing malfunctions
Exercises judgment and technical expertise during subjective testing processes
Instrument maintenance and calibrations
Maintains safe work practices

Salary: Commensurate with experience
Performs testing of patient samples in assigned FISH and/or PCR area, interprets, reviews and prepares patient test results. May or may not be trained on all benches but is progressively increasing in knowledge and experience.
Performs additional support duties or projects to assist the supervisor such as inventory, Safety Officer or monthly quality metrics.
Assists in employee/student training and employee competency as assigned.
Interacts with staff from various departments to coordinate the proper acquisition, testing and reporting of patient test results.
Ensures that the supplies used in the testing of patient samples are available in adequate quantities and that they are used efficiently.
Acts as a super user for laboratory instrumentation. Performs machine maintenance, calibrations, and troubleshoots problems as required.
Special Projects and other duties as assigned.
MLS I Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, Cytotechnology, Molecular Biology or an ASCP approved discipline (30 semester hours in biology and chemistry, which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the Bachelor's).
ASCP or equivalent Generalist Clinical Laboratory Scientist certification (CLS), Medical Technologist (MT) certification, Cytogenetics (CG) certification, Cytotechnologist (CT) certification or Molecular Biology (MB) certification passed within 12 months of hire.
1-2 years of Clinical Laboratory experience.
MLS II Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, Cytotechnology, Molecular Biology or an ASCP approved discipline (30 semester hours in biology and chemistry, which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the Bachelor's) plus two (2) years of Clinical Laboratory experience.
ASCP or equivalent Generalist Clinical Laboratory Scientist certification (CLS), Medical Technologist (MT) certification, Cytogenetics (CG) certification, Cytotechnologist (CT) certification or Molecular Biology (MB) certification.
