Under the general direction and supervision of a developmental-behavioral pediatrician, the RN Clinical Coordinator provides care and services in an outpatient setting to pediatric patients who exhibit symptoms and behaviors associated with complex developmental medical problems. In collaboration with other Center-Based health professionals, the RN Clinical Coordinator provides comprehensive assessment and evaluation of complex and specialized patient/family needs, formulates a treatment plan, and coordinates care and services with other health/mental health professionals and schools throughout Arkansas. The RN Clinical Coordinator may be called upon to provide nursing services in monthly Outreach clinics throughout the State as a member of multidisciplinary team of physician, social worker, and nurse.

Utilizes critical thinking and the nursing process in the assessment and identification of patient/family long and short-term physical, psychosocial, behavioral, educational and cultural needs. Applies the nursing process and teaching/learning principles to provide specialized and individualized patient/family education to improve problem management and prevention and to facilitate achievement of health goals. Evaluates patient's/family's response to the *diagnosis, treatment plan, and education and adjusts nursing intervention to maximize patient's/family's compliance with treatment and follow-up care. Regularly review Intakes completed by Referring Providers, to make decisions regarding type of appointment that is needed for each referral/intake. Intake review requires clinically-relevant decision-making, including recognizing referrals better served in other clinics and responding immediately should any Intake indicate a child is at immediate harm to themselves or others. Provides timely and appropriate follow-up care and patient/family education as necessary via telephone after the outpatient clinic visit. Reviews the medical record and prepares prescription refills for signature by the attending physician. Plans and coordinates follow-up appointments at the Center as indicated. Coordinates and communicates referrals to other professionals or agencies win accordance with the treatment plan. Documents all health data, diagnoses, treatment plans and follow-up care in a timely manner in accordance with policies and prepares a clinic visit note in collaboration with other clinicians on the team, as appropriate. Serves as the clinical resource to patients, families, other caregivers, and the community.
Actively participates in performance improvement activities (i.e., collecting data, suggesting and implementing approved changes and measuring outcomes) and the development of strategies to improve patient care delivery and cost effectiveness.
Participates in the research process as directed by faculty within the relevant Sections of the Department of Pediatrics. This may include patient/subject enrollment, study coordination, data collection, and presentation/publication of findings.
