Laboratory Technician – multiple shifts (contract-to-hire roles)
Kelly Services® is seeking several motivated, hardworking individuals to join our client’s team as Laboratory Technicians. There are several positions available, the initial 90 days you will rotate 30 days on 1 st shift, 30 on 2 nd , and 30 on 3 rd , then be placed on your “home” shift. These are contract-to-hire opportunities with a technologically-driven company that supplies the food and baking industries with various ingredients.
Location: Memphis, TN
Type: W2, contract-to-hire
Schedule: Monday-Friday, the initial 90 days you will rotate 30 days on 1 st shift, 30 on 2 nd , and 30 on 3 rd , then be placed on your “home” shift
Pay: up to $20/hour (some flexibility depending on relevant experience)
Overview / Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials for such purposes as quality controls, or yeast product development.
- Production Area
o Set up, adjust and operate laboratory equipment and instruments such as microscopes, centrifuge, agitators, scales, Activigraph, nitrogen analyzer, spectrophotometer, and other lab equipment.
o Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
- Quality Control
o Test materials used as ingredients in yeast products for such qualities as purity, stability, viscosity, density, absorption, brix, and melting or flash point.
o Test solutions used in processes for chemical concentration, specific gravity, pH, brix or other characteristics.
o Test materials for presence and content of elements or substances such as hydrocarbons, manganese, sulfur, ash, dust, or impurities.
o Test samples of manufactured yeast products to verify conformity to specifications.
o Responsible for HACCP verification activities.
o Record test results on standardized forms and writes test reports describing procedures used.
o Prepare graphs and charts.
o Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment.
o Calibrate laboratory instruments.
Required Experience & Skills:
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) in Chemistry or Biology from two year college or technical school, Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience in food processing, pharmaceuticals, and/or fermentation preferred.
- Ability to operate basic laboratory equipment or tools.
- Familiarity with basic scientific terminology & basic computer operation.
- Ability to work rotating shifts when necessary & occasional overtime may be required.
