We are looking for multiple experienced biochemists to aid in structural studies of protein kinases. The biochemists will join an inter-disciplinary Blue Sky Initiative on “Seeing the Invisible in Protein Kinases”, which is supported by $35M in institutional funding by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The project will extend the ultra-high field NMR spectroscopy and biochemistry approaches developed recently by the Kalodimos lab (Science 2020, 370, eabc2754) to study the human kinome. This is a large-scale project that aims to detect and structurally characterize the distinct conformational states populated by kinases, and to dissect the mechanisms of allosteric regulation and those underpinning oncogenic and drug-resistance mutations. We expect this initiative to have a profound impact on the field, transforming our understanding of protein kinases.
Preferred skills and experiences
+ Experience with molecular biology and molecular cloning techniques including subcloning, site-directed mutagenesis, PCR and DNA manipulation is desired.
+ Experience with a variety of protein expression platforms, including E. coli, insect cell culture and mammalian expression systems.
+ Expert in protein purification by various chromatographic techniques including but not limited to IMAC, IEC, HIC, SEC etc.
+ Experience with protein engineering or rational design of recombinant proteins along with characterization techniques (for example MS, SEC-MALs, DSF, DLS, SDS-Page etc.).
+ Strong track record of scientific accomplishments demonstrated through publications in highly regarded journals.
+ Outstanding organizational and multi-tasking skills; able to manage several projects going simultaneously.
+ Maintain familiarity with current scientific literature relevant to the research experiments or project.
+ An excellent team-player with strong communication skills and a willingness to mentor others.

+ Performs tasks related to the research project independently, but within specific guidelines and subject to regular review by supervisor.
+ Independently develop and implement construct design, protein purification and biophysical characterization of proteins.
+ Leverage deep knowledge and hands-on experience with versatile protein purification technologies using established chromatography, FPLC, and HPLC platforms and other analytical methods to ensure the highest quality of lead proteins.
+ Manages and trains staff as appropriate in laboratory activities.
+ Present problems and propose solutions in discussions with group members. Offer insights based on experience to group members to help solve existing problems.
+ Work effectively in a collaborative team environment where results are achieved through influence, cooperation, and the incorporation of multiple points of view.
+ Bachelor’s degree in relevant scientific area is required.
+ Seven (7) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required
+ Five (5) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a Master’s degree
+ Three (3) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a PhD
+ Ten (10) years relevant post-degree work experience is required
+ Eight (8) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a Master’s degree
+ Six (6) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a PhD
