Faculty Position, Department of Diagnostic Imaging - Researc

at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, United States

Job Description

The Department of Diagnostic Imaging at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is seeking candidates to apply for a vacant faculty position in the Research Track. The Research faculty track is reserved for outstanding scientists dedicated to advancing basic, translational, and clinical knowledge in support of the mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. A 75% or greater effort committed to research and scientific pursuit is anticipated. Collaboration is essential for scientific inquiry and expected; however, all faculty in this track are anticipated to develop a distinguished independent program of research.

lt is the explicit expectation that the successful applicant will serve as an outstanding and productive scientist within the area of molecular imaging research (radiotracer development, preclinical validation and clinical translation) and will rank among the upper tier in the nation within this field. Faculty members are anticipated to distinguish themselves through scientific impact, quality of innovation, national and international recognition and extramural grant funding.

The successful candidate is expected to be committed to research and driving innovation to reimagine our molecular imaging research program with the mission to contribute to the understanding, diagnosis and treatment catastrophic childhood diseases.

This recruitment aligns with our efforts to determine how molecular imaging – PET imaging in particular – can have more impact on the clinical and basic science research initiatives across the institution. Hiring a dynamic, top-notch faculty who is committed to driving innovation in radiotracer development would be a tremendous addition to our existing and more than capable Molecular Imaging Core (radiochemists, engineers) hosted in the Department of Diagnostic Imaging. Such a faculty member would serve to open up exciting new research opportunities that we believe would be relevant to many of our institutional programs.

Substantial resources, including an on-site cyclotron, lab space and state-of-the art clinical and preclinical PET/CT machines, are available to build a successful program. This position will be research focused, with collaboration with clinicians and other basic science researchers expected.

Candidates should have the following: a PhD or equivalent degree in Chemistry or Radiochemistry and have proven productivity as a principal or co-investigator in research endeavors, preferably grant funded.

Faculty level appointment will be commensurate with demonstrated experience, publication productivity, participation in academic activities nationally and internationally, grant-funding track record and leadership/management skills.

The essential duties of this position include:

1. Build a world-class, innovative radiotracer development program aligned with the strategic directions of the institution and taking full advantage of the available on-site resources.

2. Develop an independent program of scientific inquiry in molecular imaging, show excellence within it and secure extramural grant funding to support the program.

3. Develop strategic partnerships and establish collaborative clinical and preclinical research projects within the institution and beyond.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a private, not-for-profit institute that is internationally recognized for its dedication to performing cutting edge research and providing state of the art clinical services, with the goal to improve outcomes for children with catastrophic diseases.
