Clinical Practice

+ Obtains patient histories

+ Performs physical assessments pertinent to patient’s chief complaint

+ Evaluates assessment data and established diagnoses

+ Orders and evaluates appropriate diagnostic studies

+ Performs and monitors therapeutic procedures

+ Assesses and/or manages follow-up plans

+ Records and documents assessment data, interventions, results, and patient outcomes into the facility’s

+ Educates patients and/or families in order to promote wellness, prevent health problems, maintain current health and intervene in acute or chronic illness

+ Stays current on all patient charts, documentation, billing, & dictation on a daily basis in the clinic

+ Will be expected to generate revenue for the clinic


+ Collaborates with nurses and nurse administration to implement and evaluate patient care delivery in the clinic and hospital


+ Facilitates and implements systems which promote and maintain effective communication and collaboration with inter/intra hospital physicians, nurses and other members of the health care team

+ Maintains appropriate records and documentation of clinical and educational activities

+ Demonstrates ability to work effectively with patients, families, and with professional and supportive personnel who provide patient care

+ Supervises clinical activities of ancillary team members

+ Recognizes and uses appropriate channels to communicate stressful patient care/performance situations that arise with physicians, families and other staff members

+ Works with the Collaborating Physician(s) regarding Quality Improvement activities Contributes to development of new ideas to benefit department, hospital, and/or staff

+ Acts as a role model and in selected cases, precepting advance practice nurses

+ Participants in activities necessary to annual review

+ Documents continuing competency in the areas of medical diagnoses, therapeutics, invasive procedures and management of the patient as well as required certifications

+ Serves on departmental and interdisciplinary committees as required

+ Performs other duties as determined by the Collaborative Physician(s)


+ Maintains and enhances a current level of knowledge relative to professional practice, as well as continuing education requirements necessary for licensure and ongoing certification

+ Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Certificate of Recognition to practice as a APRN as required by the Missouri State Board of Nursing. (Note: Recognition by the State Board of Nursing as a Graduate APRN is acceptable until such time that successful completion of certificate has been achieved.)

+ A Master of Science Degree in nursing, encompassing specialized classroom and experiential learning as a APRN

+ Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice. Extensive knowledge of physical assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and management of acute and chronic patient/family problems, plus cardiology/cardiothoracic knowledge preferred

+ Substantial interpersonal skills necessary to instruct patients and their families and to collaborate with health team members

+ Certified in Basic Life Support

+ Must be able to read, write and speak English
