Instructional Program (CIP)

Welding Technology/Welder. 480508

Description

This course includes instruction in the SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW welding processes.

In shielded metal arc welding (often referred to as stick or arc welding), students will learn how to set up and use multi-process welding equipment and accessories. Students will learn the different electrodes/rods available to carry out specific weld types. Students then will use a multi-process welding machine set up for SMAW to perform the 5 basic weld joints in all positions, as well as open root groove welds.

In gas metal arc welding, also referred to as MIG welding, students will learn how to set up and use multi-process welding equipment and the accessories required to weld. Students will use a multi-process welding machine set up for MIG to perform the five basic weld joints in all positions, as well as open root groove welds. Students also will learn basic maintenance of a multi-process welding machine, including gas hookup and wire spool replacement.

In Flux-cored arc welding students will discover the benefits of both gas and gasless flux-cored welding and where they are used. They will learn how to set up and operate flux-cored welding equipment. Students will perform multiple joint types and carry out welds in the flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.

*Please note the Stick welding course may be taken independently of the MIG & Flux welding course. See other programs.
