The Manager or Sr. Manager of Research is responsible for managing a team of technical support personnel to ensure high quality and timely completion of research projects identified as having significant impact on the company’s short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals for introduction of new products and new technology.
+ Identify, plan, implement and control all research activities required to support new product introduction.
+ Develop comprehensive plans for above and work with Product Development to ensure timely support of that function.
+ Manage projects to budget and time allotment.
+ Prioritize activities and allocate resources for greatest effectiveness.
+ Assist Regulatory with submissions as well as answering questions during the review process.
+ Identify and evaluate the commercial feasibility of new product ideas and technologies.
+ Remain current and educate others on new global standards related to materials and testing.
+ Maintain good relationships with internal and external personnel; facilitate cross-functional team building to decrease time-to-market.
+ Mentor direct reports, preparing them for greater responsibility, and help them achieve success.
+ Exercise independent judgment in problem solving involving policy, procedures and practices that affect subordinate and interaction with other departments. Exercise considerable discretion in decision making.

This position must deal on a daily basis with abstract and conceptual problems within her/his team and also with other teams within the organization. This individual must be team oriented and demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
1. Testing and analysis experience in a medical device company (or equivalent) with demonstrated progressive levels of accomplishment.
2. Excellent analytical skills
3. Excellent knowledge of domestic and international testing standards for orthopedic devices
4. Ability to conduct independent research on a variety of topics including new technologies
5. Excellent presentation skills.
6. Demonstrated leadership skills by successfully leading teams, projects, and/or people
7. Moderate travel required; 15%
8. Demonstrated skill in the management and mentoring of subordinates
1. Must be able to handle multiple tasks/projects and manage priorities accordingly.

All Research and Development employees including Research and Testing/Analysis functions must follow all internal processes related to HCP consultant interaction, and may be in a position to initiate and verify HCP consultant’s services per the processes. Research and Development employees must follow all reporting guidelines for business expenses as they pertain to HCP interaction and involvement. All R&D employees are responsible for completing quarterly safety training per corporate policies on-time. All Research and Testing/Analysis employees must follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), all FDA and EU directives for laboratory data collection and storage, and all MPO procedures related to lab safety.
This position is accountable for leading personnel in Research and Testing and Analysis. Minimal supervision is required for this position.
Manager, Research: minimum 5 years of related experience Sr. Manager, Research: minimum 7 years of related experience
Experience in a medical device company (or equivalent) with demonstrated progressive levels of accomplishment is required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Material Science or related field (Master’s preferred)
